Revised timelineSummer 1992 - Murayama visited Konami's newly opened Tokyo headquarters to submit his first job application whereupon he was hired Winter 1992 - development of RPG for Konami console started - The RPG he was working on was a story of two countries at war. The plan was to establish their on series on the new market before Square and Enix made their entry. - Committed from the start to make a franchise to rival series such as Enix's Dragon Quest and Square's Final Fantasy, Murayama wrote a chronological prequel for his story and used that instead in order not to waste the Suikoden II script due to his lack of experience. Informations about scrapped Konami home console is impossible to find There must be something about early version of Suikoden in game magazines (in 1994 to 1995 period) but on internet there is ZERO informations If pictures or videos from early versions exist then in 10 + years somebody should have found it and post in on various internet sites. But. maybe these are obscured tiny informations that slipped and its hard to notice? For example for Metal Gear Solid or Castlevania: Symphony of the Night you can find informations about early versions. So there must be something for Suikoden!

Great job finding all of this! Sadly my Level collection only goes back to nr 47 or I would've been able to provide scans. Its strange to me that he give interview to Sweden game magazine in 2009. and not to UK or US. Swedish games journalists have always been ahead of the curve, simply by treating business trips as work and not booze/bribe cruises. They've gotten really good relationships with many developers because of it.

I never bought a single issue of Level, dunno why. I think I have every issue of Super Play/Super Power though And yeah, I kinda like swedish game journalism in general, but it seems that it's always the same people writing about gaming for every magazine/newspaper. And some of them have been around since the early 90's. I'd like to see some of them go already. Anyway, great find. I had no idea Konami was working on a console. I imagine they'd gone bankrupt to be honest. Maybe MGS could've saved the console but I doubt it very much.

Hm interesting there is one unreleased Suikoden game!First Suikoden II information I have found is from February 1997. groups.google.com/forum/#!search/suikoden$202$20rumors/alt.games.video.sony-playstation/oDyardgyxaE/RpcU857JciAJ And then next informations are from, before or after E3 1997. www.gamespot.com/news/suikoden-sequel-turns-evil-2467154Suikoden Sequel Turns EvilAugust 11, 1997 12:31PM PDT By Chris Johnston Konami's update to their hit RPG, Suikoden, gives players a chance to play on the evil side. Suikoden was the first RPG that Konami brought over from Japan for the PlayStation in the U.S. Its story captivated gamers and, finally, has spawned a sequel. At E3 in Atlanta, Konami announced that Suikoden 2 was in fact in development. Now, new details have been discovered through Konami's own literature in Japan. The title of Genso Suikoden 2 will officially be Akatsuki Teikokugawa, which, loosely translated, means "the side of the Red Moon Emperor's country." This is a fitting title, because in the game, you get to play on the side of the bad guys from the first Suikoden.
Is Akatsuki Teikokugawa real, rumor or mistranslation from japanese? I didnt found more evidence for this game. Maybe there is something in japanese or US videogame magazines from 1997? Lost Levels forum had interesting info: forums.lostlevels.org/viewtopic.php?t=185&sid=0fd9c0c6053ed549687ebbdc47c108adI recently purchased Suikoden II from the local game shop (it was in pretty good conditions and I seen it go for over $100 at eBay) and I just remembered that prior to it's release, Konami was planning on doing a semi-sequel to the original game titled Akatsuki Teikokugawa (The Story from the Scarlet Moon Empire's Side), which as the title indicated, was essentially the events of first game but viewed from the bad guys' point of view. Obviously, it's not the released Suikoden II, since that game was set after the downfall of the Scarlet Moon Empire. Konami even released a concept artwork featuring a logo and an artwork of the bad guys from the first game (similar to one found within the manual for the original game).Do you remember announcement of Akatsuki Teikokugawa? Or maybe you have magazines with more information? E3 1997www.armchairempire.com/Features/e3-chronicles/1997.htmKonami: As usual, there was a lot to look at in the Konami booth at E3 this year. There were a pair of titles being shown with RPG elements to them with Suikoden II, and Vandal Hearts, as well as the Bruce Campbell voiced action / adventure, Broken Helix. The two games that were the centerpiece of Konami’s line-up were Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and Metal Gear Solid. For most, news of a 2D Castlevania is almost always cause for celebration, but Metal Gear Solid was the true toast of the town. Hiding? Sneaking? Not killing everything in site? Stealth is king? These factors had many at the show eager to see more of MGS.According to IGN Suikoden 2 was missing from Konami E3 booth. www.ign.com/articles/1997/06/20/e3-konami-keeps-suikoden-2-hidden Announced just prior to E3 by Konami with much excitement, Suikoden 2 for the PlayStation was conspicuously missing from the company's E3 booth.
A press release had even been issued, marking the game's official announcement.
However, when pressed on this, a Konami spokesperson confessed that it was too early to be shown.
No release date has been given on this highly-anticipated sequel. Was this real game and they decide to cancel it, and developed sequel based on original Suikoden script from 1993 or is rumor/mistranslation from japanese? Here is planned Konami lineup on E3 1997: www.ign.com/articles/1997/06/17/can-you-say-suikoden-2Date is 6/17/97. Here is news after E3: www.ign.com/articles/1997/06/21/e3-suikoden-2-us-boundE3 1997 was held in Atlanta from June 19-21. www.giantbomb.com/e3-1997/92-3419/E3 1997 Impressions: www.vidgames.com/ps/misc/z970626.html

Here is some interesting page that I have found with Suikoden II rumors and facts. community.fortunecity.ws/rivendell/zelda/108/information.htmFacts The game is 65% done. It will be released in fall of 1998 in Japan, sometime in 1999 here. The name is Akatsuki Teikokugawa, which translated roughly is Red Moon: The Emperor's Countryside. The basic concept (the main character leading an army with 108 members) will be the same as the first Suikoden. About 1/3 of the characters from Suikoden will appear in the sequel. Saved files from Suikoden can somehow be used in the sequel. The world view will be the same as Suikoden. You will play as the Empire, the bad guys from the first Suikoden. The game will still have army battles and a headquarters system, but they will be improved and have new features. There will still be runes and possibly unite attacks. It will have a new story, new characters, and new battle modes. The story will unfold along multiple paths and will have many hidden secrets. The game will not feature FMV, but some other way of telling the story. There will be many more attacks and techniques in battle. The three main characters are the nameless hero, staff-weilding Joey, and three-piece rod-swinging Nanami. They are childhood friends. Here you can find some contradictions - for example: You will play as the Empire, the bad guys from the first Suikoden / The three main characters are the nameless hero, staff-weilding Joey, and three-piece rod-swinging Nanami. They are childhood friends Maybe the gathered informations from various development phase or something? These is interesting note: Most of the facts cam from the interview or Konami's official description. Is it posible that Akatsuki Teikokugawa ended scrapped like Resident Evil 2 Prototype aka Resident Evil 1.5? Or maybe at some time period they have in mind plans for two games for release? One game was gaiden story with bad guys from Suikoden and other was proper sequel aka Suikoden II. Here are rumors: RumorsThe game will be multiplayer. The game was going to be released in Japan in April. The hero from the last game will again be the main character. The game will take place before the first game, during the war for succesesion. The game will take place in the same timeframe as the first game. The game will be called Suikoden II: Clash of Generals when it is released here. All 108 stars of destiny will be new characters. Better graphics for normal and army battles. The game will star the 5 imperial generals. Windy will be a main character. You play as the empire but are good, not evil.I didnt found hard evidence for existence of Akatsuki Teikokugawa and I appreciate any help. Everything is possible. Mistranslation, rumor, real game, gaiden game...
