I don't know. If there's anyone who could make a story of that it's Kojima.

Nanomachines can fix anything. Or just transplant a body part that possesses its host.

@jasonx They have a point...
But, really that remake would be so cool.

One of the few reasons I needed to get a PS Vita. In fact I was even considering a PS3 just for the MGS HD Collection, but got myself the handheld instead. Such a great game.

Only downside is the lack of the dream sequence in MGS3. Otherwise, this is one of the more impressive HD ports.

What was the reason again for not including that? Makes little sense to me.
MG has become so convoluted (or was from the get-go) that I think it could use some sort of reboot, or another non-canon game.

Don't think any official word was given on that. Speculation is that the minigame in the dream was somehow tied up in legal limbo, so they had to excise it from the re-release.

I believe the engine was a super buggy alpha build of something that became Nanobreaker instead. As a rule these HD collections and anthology ports are done as cheaply as possible so I'm sure the second they ran into any coding issues with it they just dropped it.

If you squint at it hard enough, the story for MGS4 does eventually make sense. Really, though, it was just an attempt by Kojima to wrap up every single loose end all at once. I don't for a second believe that Zero, Para-medic, or Sigint could turn into those people. Me neither *SPOILERS* The Patriots were obviously supposed to be some sort of Illuminati like shadow government of the US, not your freakin' codec team from 3 And the stuff with Vamp really bothered me, he was obviously supposed to be supernatural in 2, like Psycho Mantis/The Sorrow, so tell me how do nanomachines explain walking and sitting on water? What was the reason again for not including that? Makes little sense to me. MG has become so convoluted (or was from the get-go) that I think it could use some sort of reboot, or another non-canon game. I've always thought Kojima should make a Ghost Babel like non-canon direct sequel to Metal Gear Solid where you play as Solid Snake, not on the Big Shell either but in an entirely new and different story, maybe drawing from some of Kojima's ideas before he decided to get all post-modern (I believe the original plot involved Snake infiltrating a highjacked aircraft carrier). I mean it really is a have your cake and eat it too scenario, you get to give the fans what they want, to play as Solid Snake again and you don't have the worry about the story of 2.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is the apex of the series.

The dumbest of all the nano machines revelations in MGS4 is Ocelot's hand situation just because the already had a (supernatural) explanation for it in MGS3. Though I do find it interesting how, chronologically, the series has less and less paranormal stuff as it goes further into the future.

I don't quite get the love for The Boss. On the one hand, she is a very rare example of an important mother character. Snake goes through the coming-of-age Freudian routine not by killing his symbolic father, but by literally killing his symbolic mother (phew, that was a mouthful).
On the other hand... she's a character visibly suffering from Himalaya syndrome. She was the bestest soldier of WWII, and a woman, no less! She taught the Special Forces! She went into battle pregnant! She was the first American in space!
There's also the fact that they couldn't let her rest in peace in Peace Walker, so they added a whole bunch of unnecessary junk to her story.

Probably because she was one of the better developed characters that wasn't defined by a gimmick.

Also a genuine hero, which apart from Solid Snake is a rarity in the series

It's also probably why the skateboarding bonus from MGS2 Subsistence was cut from the collection too, as that was an entirely different game too (Evolution Skateboarding) and presumably Konami or Bluepoint weren't arsed enough to port it.
