So when will they start making non-Sony and Nintendo made PS1 and N64 systems? I see various systems that are NES, SNES and Sega Genesis (or ones that can play the games from all these sytems,) that aren't made by Nintendo or Sega at a video game store I go to. So far nothing involving the next gen of the older systems. i'm pretty sure i saw a ps1 emulator console that looked like the second model ps1 at aliexpress or dealextreme... i'll try to find it

Playstation 1 is one of my favourite consoles and the only console from Sony I really loved. Don't get me wrong, I also liked PS2 (which was the last console I bought from Sony, maybe I will buy a PSP in the future) but I'm not so fond about it like I do with PS1. Playstation 1 was a huge phenomenon that put many people into gaming with a huge, great games library (there are still many games for Playstation 1 I haven't played yet but I want to play sometime). And in contrary with its competitors, it made many things right: making a cd console (instead of a cartidge console like N64 that drove away all the companies that were strongly supporting Nintendo from NES era) which is easy to be programmed and in lower price (in contrary with Saturn that was hard to be programmed and much more expensive). However I loved equally Playstation 1, N64 and Saturn since each console had its own, interesting exclusives I love so much even today. By the here's an interesting document that not many people know about it: www.wired.com/2012/09/how-virtua-fighter-saved-playstations-bacon/I had to note here that I always prefered Virtua Fighter series over Tekken series. I also liked Tekken but my interest about it ended after the 3rd one. I only make an exception for Tekken Tag Tournament 2 when I am with my friends since everyone can enjoy it equally even if they don't know much about Tekken.

I... I have to admit I've never even barely touched a Sony console until recently, when I got a hand-me-down PS2 from a friend of mine. After some time hunting for a controller, I'm finally apprecciating both the PS1 and 2's enormous, beautiful library of games. I just have to get a PS1 Memory Card now...

Before I had developed my unconditional love for the PS2, it was the PS1 that made me feel immersed in game world for the first time thanks to it's revolutionary 3D capabilities.
The only thing that bothers me about it, is that it's shock full of RPGs that never got here. With the whole FFVII craze going on, you think we'd get just as much as Japan had gotten.
Real life aside, it's in times like these I wish romhackers and translators would move on from the NES, SNES, and Game Boy to start giving this platform some well deserved attention. God knows how many hidden gems we're missing out...

SONY joining the games sector made it even more difficult for the hardcore gamers. Not only was there SEGA, Nintendo, and computers like the IBM PC and the Commodore Amigas, now there was another major player. It was already hard to keep up with Nintendo and the PC for me!
I personally regard the PlayStation (1) as the third best console of all-time.

For Playstation 1 games I believe it's more convenient to play them either on a PS1 emulator at PC or at PSP.

can't believe neorasa is posting again what the fuck Yeah, these are strange days. I keep trying to get kimimi and justinzero to come back, but no luck. Maybe Sotenga? The PS1 is definitely a classic system, though, and memorable for so many reasons. It was the first system I ever bought with my own money. It was the first system I ever pre-ordered a game for (FFVII). It was the first system I ever bought a game for before I even owned the system (FFVII). Oh, and it also had a lot of great games, or something? People love to say that gaming has gone mainstream, but the modern era is hardly the first time this has happened. A lot of people who had stopped playing games during the 16 bit era came back during the 32 bit generation, and that was specifically for the PS1 and the new types of experiences it offered. Either way, the PS1 was officially the start of the "TOO MANY JRPGs" era. Still have a backlog about a mile long due to that, which is definitely a good thing.

The main reason I bought a Vita was so that I can play my PS1 backlog on the go, which is mostly JRPGs. I'm in the middle of Wild Arms and have Suikoden lined up next.
I stayed away from the PS1 when it first released as I had no real interest in anything it was doing. The SNES was still putting out some solid games and it seemed that Sony was just pumpimg out X-Games compilations and Cool Boarders or fighting games I had no interest in month after month. It wasn't until FF7 that my brothers and I invested in it. But it was Symphony of the Night that got me hooked on the machine because the N64 wasn't doing anything like that. I had both, but if a game was cross-platform I usually went with the PS version. Plus they were cheaper.

I believe there was a semi-official N64 one in China several years ago but it was more like those tv games. It was an N64 controller with several games built in. For the rest though I don't think you're going to be seeing them until the rig/software required to run PS1/2/etc. emulators becomes ubiquitous. I think the Chinese N64 thing you're talking about is the iQue. That's an official Nintendo product.

Never heard of someone liking the N64 more than the PS1. Maybe it has something to do with it being the first console for a lot of people? In my opinion, there were some good games for the thing, but by and large, the overall landscape was a pretty barren wasteland.

Much like any Nintendo console after the SNES, the N64 was generally best for Nintendo's first party stuff, along with a few of their second parties like Rare, HAL, and so on. Not that there weren't third party games and some rad arcade ports, but still.

Nintendo games mostly lost their appeal for me around that generation. Especially Rare. Never got into Banjo Kazooie, Jet Force Gemini, or a bunch of other 1st and 2nd party games from those days.
Without those, and essentially no RPGs, there's not much to pick from. Honestly, I don't know how Nintendo went so long without posting a loss, considering how the N64 and Gamecube eras turned out.
