80s for music, 90s for video games for me.
Although, as far as available libraries go, I've really grown to appreciate the present. The whole concept of "scenes" has been overhauled, but maybe that's actually for the better. I just noticed I'm a lot closer to 35 than to 15 as of now.

80's was great for music, I'll say that much. Movies, too. I just feel when it comes to games, most media, advancements in technology, and the general culture, the 90's generally win out. Of course, I was pretty young through it, I'll admit, so I'm hardly an expert on anything. But to me, personally, it always felt like the 90's still had that general "innocence" to it that the 80's did. I mean, sure, there was a lot more snark going on, but it all felt a lot more goofy and good-natured than actively spiteful, the way things tend to be now.
...I just realized that I haven't said a single word about Mega Man during this whole thread. I'm honestly sorry about that, let me try harder. ...I'll be honest and say that the classic series never really did it for me, and I'd imagine that I'd be about as terrible as your average teenager trying to play it. There's a lot of reasons that I preferred the X games, and while they're still difficult, I'd say that they're generally a lot more forigivng, which leads to them being a lot more fun overall.
Also, I like games with air dashes. I don't know what it is, but "has an air dash" is worth at least a half point on my imaginary scoring scale.

I love air-dashing too! When I first played X2 (well, beyond the time I rented it as a kid and couldn't beat a single Maverick boss ), and discovered that the Air Dash is a thing, my mind was blown. It remains one of my favorite upgrades in any series ever. X3 blew my mind even further by introducing the vertical air-dash! I was really disappointed with how games like X4 and X5 then promptly forgot the vertical air dash was a thing blegh. I fully admit part of why I don't absolutely hate X6 is because it brings back the vertical air-dash, and actually expands on it by letting you vertically air-dash downward as well as upward

What's the point of a vertical air dash down? Won't gravity do the work for you?

You can stop mid-air for a while while choosing the direction to dash into, so it can be good for landing right behind enemy shots. The armour is wasted on an unfinished game, sadly.

What's the point of a vertical air dash down? Won't gravity do the work for you? Well sometimes you gotta fall fast and gravity's too slow. I really like airdashes too, and I don't even need the awful Buster Parts to get it in X3, so it's even better.
