I don't mind generated levels, as long as enough work is put into the generation algorithms that the levels are noticeably different. A lot of generated games opt to use prefab rooms and only change how they're connected to each other, which gets really monotonous after a while, especially things like Tower of Guns and Ziggurat where the secrets are almost always in the same location every time the same room template appears.

The only action/roguelike game I have ever played that actually succeeded well enough to keep me interested for more than like an hour was Spelunky.
In my experience, roguelike elements are the indie game version of the AAA industry's "big map with icons indicating repetitive tasks you can complete" genre. It's a cheap, easy way to generate something that appears to offer a lot of content and value, even if 95% of that content is worthless crap.

Roguelikes are okay by me, as long as the amount of content is good and the mechanics are solid. They can be really addictive if they get that right balance of difficult and rewarding, but it's REALLY hard to do. I like what they're doing with this game, keeping the basics simple and building with a ton of stuff to find. If there's enough reward on average per play, this could be as fun as The Binding of Isaac.

I'm thinking that if they really want to go the EXXXXtreme roguelike route, they could try some kind of "Bomb mode": Clear the room and move to the next one in 60 seconds, or your head explodes! Radical!

To answer Weasel's point, the small amount of footage I can see of the game shows rather interesting corridor designs and not JUST prefab arena rooms. Time will tell of course.

Looks to me the money that went towards the trailer could've funded the game for a fair bit.

Looks to me the money that went towards the trailer could've funded the game for a fair bit. You'd be surprised. A talented staff could whip up something like that with very little funds and some nifty editing tricks, plus that was not exactly high end fake blood. The only thing that looks worth any money was the body effect, and props could have been found used and cheap for that.

Oodles of indie games (and big budget) die because their marketing/word of mouth buzz was poor. The trailer is great and since we're talking about it, probably a good investment. It's way better than a shonky video of the creator talking over a green screen.

I don't know if I'll back this, but the trailer is one of my favorite things I have ever seen in my life. This was worth it for the trailer alone. I hope the game itself turns out to be good as well.

The trailer AND the website are sooo cool, holy mother of god... I really dig the geocities style of the site- wow, something i never thought i'd actually say. What I really don't like though is the look of the game itself. From what I can see, yeah it is low poly, but it really lacks the gritiness and low res of mid ninties FPSes...compare it to QuakeI which looks way more badass.

Roguelikes are fine by me as long as they keep the challenge level balanced and they put enough content to avoid too much repetition.
That said, the trailer was hilarious and I like the low poly look.

Me too, I'm not too thrilled by it for now. I dig the look but some elements are still too "advanced", procedural generation is starting to stomach me, and the trailer tries too hard to be edgy. Better wait and see.

Game does not look interesting in the slightest (why does it look even worse than QUAKE I), but that trailer was amazing.

Nope, I am also not interested to be honest.
There are tons of classic shooters out there, from the actual year 1996, which deserve a bloody reboot running on an advanced engine. Witchaven...or Exhumed/Powerslave anyone?
