This is very educational for me who've never even visited America. I could name maybe 15-20 states but now I'm gonna try and learn em all. I did learn a couple of years ago that Washington D.C is not in Washington state. Blew my mind.
Anyway, I'd like to make a similar thread for Europe, maybe. Though I can only think of a handful of games right now...

Does T&C Surf Designs actually take place in Hawaii?
Also, part of Fallout 3's map is Arlington, Virginia.

I've done so many school assignments about placing capitals to each state, and I still sometimes forget that some states exist. I mean, you have Montana, Wyoming, Delaware, the Dakotas... states that are just generally so unnoteworthy that you have to look at a map or be actually reminded of their existence.

Does Metal Gear Rising count as being set in Colorado? it's the most frequently appearing location even if the entire game ain't set there.

Fun topic. Came to mention Shadowrun for Washington, but you guys got it covered. Probably the only game in existence to reference the city I grew up in by name. (I dunno about the SNES version, but the Genesis version doesn't just take place in Seattle but the whole surrounding area.) I did learn a couple of years ago that Washington D.C is not in Washington state. Blew my mind. You would be amazed by how many Americans confuse DC with Washington state, even forgetting that Washington state exists. Very frustrating for people from the state, that's for sure. I can't count the number of times I've talked about where I'm originally from only for people to automatically assume I mean DC.

Well in all fairness, people just use Washington for both rather freely. Although, I do find that the people from there actually talk about being from DC or Washington state.

If there is an example for Minnesota, I don't think it's going to be very good. There was "Minnesota Fats Pool Legend" but that was just a character name and I don't know if it was necessarily set in Minnesota. (would have to watch the Saturn FMVs again, which I recall were pretty terrible.) I know the state has the Mall of America, and Target and Best Buy were created there. I don't know, did any interpretations of Jack Thompson's "murder simulator" take place at Best Buy HQ (as I recall shooting up Best Buy employees was part of his horrible game idea that was a joke but game fans did it anyways because of his fake promise of a charitable donation to Child's Play, and because he's a horrible person. ) They never made a Fargo game (I know Fargo is in ND but I recall the movie was mostly MN) or Grumpy Old Men. General Mills is also MN, certainly they've had some kind of advergame yet?

I notice Saints Row got mentioned in relation to Michigan; is there any real statement as such? I thought the cities of Stilwater and Steelport were 100% fictional and had no real relation to real cities.
