I'm sure there's a golf game that takes place in South Carolina. Golden Tee or Tiger Wood's at least. Maybe something more specific in the 80's or early 90's.

Jersey Devil surely takes place in New Jersey? The intro shows him as a newborn so it must be his birthplace?

In Revengeance you murder most of Denver's police force and kill their senator

Never Alone/Kisima Inŋitchuŋa is probably an easy one for Alaska. And even though New York has way too many, nobody is even going to say Metal Gear Solid 2?

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Postal 2, which both takes place in Arizona, and was also developed there. :p

This is very educational for me who've never even visited America. I could name maybe 15-20 states but now I'm gonna try and learn em all. I did learn a couple of years ago that Washington D.C is not in Washington state. Blew my mind. Anyway, I'd like to make a similar thread for Europe, maybe. Though I can only think of a handful of games right now... You may be surprised to learn that New York is a state, not just a city. I notice Saints Row got mentioned in relation to Michigan; is there any real statement as such? I thought the cities of Stilwater and Steelport were 100% fictional and had no real relation to real cities. They are 100% fictional but inspired by real cities, Stilwater is actually a weird mixture of many different cities whereas Steelport is Saints Row's version of Detroit.

I was avoiding naming games for California and New York since the OP said those were too easy If we're gonna do that though, then pretty much any of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games, as well as Crysis 2 and 3, would apply for New York. As for California, Fallout 1 and 2 take place there (1 in southern California, 2 in northern California), and Tony Hawk's American Wasteland takes place entirely in the city of Los Angeles/surrounding areas like Santa Monica. EDIT: Ooh, Rainbow Six: Vegas 1 and 2 take place mostly in Nevada.

derboo , I believe Tony Hawk's American Wasteland should be color-coded green, since Neversoft was based out of Woodland Hills, California.

This is a fun idea! Just to add to my home state of New Jersey, Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Zombie Ninja Pro-Am takes place in the generic "South Jersey," and I'm assuming Superhero League of Hoboken ( article) qualifies as well... (If we're counting individual levels, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 has an enjoyable recreation of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania!)

Philly in THPS2 is so cool. Really, a lot of the stages from the first few THPS games are incredible. It makes me sad that practically every later release, when featuring older stages as a bonus, almost always defaults back to the same old Warehouse and School II and Hangar when there are so many other great levels in them like San Francisco or New York or School.

Surprised no one said Michigan: Report From Hell. It's got Michigan in the title!

Surprised no one said Michigan: Report From Hell. It's got Michigan in the title! It's in derboo's list, and apparently it doesn't take place in Michigan. I've never played it so I don't know the details.
