Probsbly someone already said it, but what's the appeal of "Five Nights at Freddy's" and all related games? I thought people hated FMV games! Oh, that's easy to gget. 1. Original concept that taps into something a lot of people have similar feelings on 2. The little details thrown around that encourages speculation among fans 3. Lets play bumping 4. Furries

Again though, FNAF was the Minecraft generation's first horror game and I think that accounts for a lot of it's popularity.
I don't mean that as a put down of the game necessarily, it did come along with a fresh idea, but I'm just saying it also helps that there was an entire generation of gamers who missed Resident Evil's or Silent Hill's heyday and were ripe to be scared by a game.

Sometimes I find it hard to believe that Slederman dates back to only 2009, it feels like that thing's been around forever.

I agree it has an interesting premise, but here in Europe we never had Chuck E. Cheese so it's harder to get FNAF's appeal.

Thus the furries.
But it's not just Chuck E. Cheese. There were tons and tons of those creepy anamatronic joints.

There are interesting elements to the Slenderman mythos, mainly the creatures design, and some cool media came from it (Marble Hornets). People latched onto it for a lot of reasons, and this sadly included a simple little free release indie game, overhyping it. It also got released at the right time, as let's players were just starting to really get ground in the cultural landscape of gaming.

All I know is that the animantronic things are laughable in the first 2 games then but got somewhat uglier and then a lot frightening in the fourth. It makes me wonder why couldn't the others be like the fourth in regards to the design of the things (and a shame too since I don't much ammo to make fun of the series anymore).

I don't think FNAF started off as being all that serious, I got the vibe from that first game that it was meant to be a little bit tongue in cheek, that the idea of killer Chuck E Cheese robots was meant to be funny as well as scary.

Not exactly a popular franchise but I don't understand why Konami supported Frogger for so long with so many platform and action/adventure sequels and yet I have never met even one fan of these games. Konami wasn't involved with it I don't think, but Frogger II: Threeedeep! on the Colecovision is a pretty neat take on Frogger gameplay. I also think the late '90s 3D Frogger game is genuinely a great game; I'm sad that it gets so much hate. I just wish there was a way to get it working on Windows 7 while simultaneously having the soundtrack play as intended.

It wasn't that bad... until you get to Frogger Goes Skiing. Than you will learn true hate. Also, if all else fails, you could try the PS1 version.

It also got released at the right time, as let's players were just starting to really get ground in the cultural landscape of gaming. Yeah, the original works were really quite excellent. I'm rather sad that the game's popularity kind of made the older stuff impossible to take seriously anymore, especially for newcomers who would have only heard of the game.
