I am looking for games with nearly one of kind gameplay or gameplay mechanics. Something like Umihara Kawase would be a good example. Anything else?

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (NES) But I really don't think you want to play it.

I think it really depends what one of a kind means..if you mean games that are essentially a genre unto themselves I can't really think of much..Kuri Kuri Mix is pretty unique, as is Trap Gunner and like Burning Rangers isn't really done in a similar style anywhere.

I said nearly because there is probably nothing out there that there are no other games like at this point. Essentially I am talking about games that could accuately be said to have gameplay or gameplay mechanics that there are few other examples of.

Trap Gunner is fairly unique, but the Bomb Disarming (especially in the bonus stages) is pretty much a homage to the old Genesis game "Crack Down" (hence the announcer saying it before every round...). I'd also agree with the people who said Burning Rangers and Gain Ground, maybe Virtual On (compared to slower and clunkier sim-style mech games...)
I want to say Silent Bomber, due to its quick pace, lock-on ability and large stages, but I think people would still laugh at me and call it a Bomberman ripoff....

I assume you want English-language games only, correct? (:
Chibi-Robo for GameCube, Chulip for PS2, the two Jumping Flash games for PS1 (two of a kind, but hey, close enough!), and Vib Ribbon for PS1 (English version available in Europe) are my suggestions.
Also, I know a lot of people disagree, but Tokobot (for either PSP or PS2) is pretty one-of-a-kind in its gameplay. It's a 3D platformer at heart, but the means of combat and puzzle-solving in the game are extremely unique.

Silent Bomber is an amazing game in its own right. I was actually one of the few people that bought that game right when it first came out and had absolutely no attention. I was in like sixth grade at the time and I played the OPM demo and was blown away (hehe) by it. I still have the poster of it on my bedroom wall today as a Junior in college.

In the vein of the Jumping Flash games, there's also Ghost in the Shell for PS1, which seemed to combine elements of a game like that with the speed and ground game of something like Virtual On. Maybe not so much 'unique', but fairly underrated, IMO.
