Not quite a cartoon, but when I was a youngun one episode of Sesame Street scared the crap out of me. I think Bert and Ernie were in this Egyptian temple/pyramid or something. Just the environment frightened me deeply. Holy smokes here it is: youtube.com/watch?v=9nSmWHHZpVE I think children have a serious fear of adults not being able to protect them from danger, and this clip plays on that fear, even if only accidentally. If Ernie didn't act so dependent on Bert and the clip was a bit more lighthearted like a Laurel & Hardy sketch, it wouldn't have been so frightening.

Geez. That Ernie and Bert thing was a little creepy. The echo voice of the statue was spooky, and the lighting made it creepy too. Not saying I was scared, but it was indeed kinda creepy. Too bad they ended up cutting stuff out. Remember how they stopped having the lightning come after the Count finished counting? Apparently it was too scary for kids, so they stopped doing it. Stupid parents ruining shows. What's next? Banning the Thomas episode where Oliver was saved from scrap?

Unf., the sketch spends too much time on Ernie getting worked up and scared. That's called 'suspense'. A minute into the sketch and you're expecting something bad to happen to him. When the statue does touch Ernie on the hat, it *is* creepy.
Scooby-Doo manages to deflate the suspense by making both Shaggy and Scooby scared. Then they forget about being scared and start thinking about food. Then the monster comes or appears, but its a pathetically slow monster and makes a swipe at them, but doesn't really touch them. Then they play hide and go seek for five minutes while the others advance the plot by finding clues.

Thomas, Percy, and the DragonNow keep in mind I was very little, so this is why it scared me. There was an episode of Thomas the Tank Engine in which Thomas had to deliver a Chinese paper craft Dragon for a parade. This episode scared me because the dragon was scary. Though one could argue that this technically isn't a cartoon. YOU BASTARD YOU JUST BROUGHT BACK MY NIGHTMARES.

Unless you were being sarcastic. I remember that as a kid, The Jetsons movie scared me at parts. (It's a movie based on a series, so it's okay) The part where they see the creatures' eyes in the dark with all the cogs scared me. (My memory is a little shaky on the movie, so I might not have been accurate there)

Cow and Chicken and Courage The Cowardly Dog were pretty disturbing shows at times.

I loved Cow and Chicken as a kid, and it was kinda freaky and kinda inappropriate, but I was young, so I didn't notice it was inappropriate.

That's not the only Thomas episode, did you ever see one that involved them trying to move this boulder? The ending still terrifies the fuck out of me.

I think I only watched up until the end of season 5 since it went downhill after that. All of these stupid new characters and changing the character themes. Not to mention that the narrator sucks. Plus they changed the sign on song with this piece of garbage song. Could you give a description of the episode maybe? I might of seen it.

Transformers the Movie
Seriously. Unicron's face creeped me the hell out. That part at the end where his head ZOOMS by the "camera" used to have me running out of the room.

No one's mentioned The Brave Little Toaster yet?
Seriously, the Air Conditioner's freakout, the nightmare with the clown, mishmesh..., an entire musical number about cars going to their deaths, and perhaps the most gruesome temporary death in a children's cartoon.
