I dissent that Violent Storm is "So 90's It Hurts". That looks more like concentrated 80's, to me! Blackdrazon: I'll try to get a shot of that soon! joelh: I've been thinking about redoing it, but I've got so many other projects I'm not quite sure when it'll start.

Kinda interesting to see a negative review on the almighty X-Men arcade. You're a very strange man Bobinator.

I really wish we could get a full Simpsons feature someday.

I remember playing The Simpsons arcade game at the local Godfather's pizza circa the very early 2000's, good times...

The Metamorphic Force article mentions looking like an 80s cartoon and I see that kind of comment around sometimes. I think people forget how bright the early 90s could be. Look at movies like White Men Can't Jump or Fresh Prince of Bel Air. As far as that neon pastel look in the game you can see that in 90s toys like GI Joe Eco Warriors or Exo-Squad and its cartoon.

So I just finished the Sachen Famicom Bootleg of Gaiapolis. And I love the arcade game to death so I actually enjoyed this too.

Kinda interesting to see a negative review on the almighty X-Men arcade. You're a very strange man Bobinator. Personally I found it refreshing. But perhaps it is because its popularity kinda puzzled me even back then, especially considering that there were far better beat em ups.

It's not that it's a bad game. Compared to something like, say, Crime Fighters, I'd play X-Men ten times over. The whole point I'm making is that the only thing it has over games that came out even 3 years before it is the six player thing.

The whole point I'm making is that the only thing it has over games that came out even 3 years before it is the six player thing. And next to the 6 player thing it has a decent amount of enemies on screen, there's proper crowd control in the game... however the fighting system is quite dull and basic. It deserves it's praise for the enemy count alone.

In general, I feel like Konami's are at the low end of the good beat 'em up scale. There usually isn't a lot of gameplay depth, and it comes down to being entertained by how well they capture a license, and having 3-5 other players alongside, to hide the monotony of fighting too many enemies. The only exception would be Violent Storm, and maybe the home console Batman Returns games.

The SNES port of Turtles in Time (and with that, The Hyperstone Heist) are pretty decent too.
