www.hardcoregaming101.net/thunderforce/thunderforce.htmWould write more but I'm exhausted. Needless to say, Thunder Force 3 and 4 are two of the best shooters on the Genesis. And while Thunder Force 5 is pretty ugly, it has a great sense of speed, and it's still pretty great. Awesome music all around too. SSH did some cool remixes of TF4 music, if you can find them.

Ah, excellent article on an excellent series! Finally, some information on the unknown TF1. I almost believed for a while that there was no such game as TF1! TF2... well, I never really went far in it. Those damn overhead scenes were more frustrating than they needed to be, IMO. But ThunderForce III is the absolute greatness. For pure shmupping goodness on the Genesis, you can't get much better than TF3. Granted, it may be a bit easy by shmup standards, but that's why you can up the difficulty! TF4 is just godly, and a veritable work of art. However, I concur that it is the most difficult game in the series. Took me hours to train up and beat that mofo. Ohhhhh dear... bad flashbacks... AUGH! LEVEL EIGHT!!! PAAAAAIIIIIINNNNNNN!!!!!! ... yes, well, anyhoo... ThunderForce 5 is excellent, one of the best shmups for the Playstation. Though, if I must complain, the final boss is a REAL SHITTING DICKGOBBLER!!! It's bad enough that his arsenal is pimped out beyond all belief, but the cowardly fucker flees if you're too slow and you get the bad ending! I only ever beat him once... thank you, powered-up Free Range. What a tough! Ah, nostalgia. Commendations to Paul! Oh, and... I notice many pics of TF5 are similar. Is that a fluke?

Well, looks like I'm offically broken in now. Thanks to Kurt for letting me write it and putting it up. I had fun working on this, and plan to try my hand at a few more if no one thinks my writing is too terrible javascript:add("%20;)") Wink.
Forgive me for nitpicking if you aren't aware, but you might want to doublechecks some of the release dates as I'm pretty sure some of them are off by a few years. Other than that, it looks awesome. Oh, and did somemore research and found all (i think) the systems TFI was released on: Sharp X1, Sharp MZ-1500, NEC PC-6001, NEC PC-98, NEC PC-88, and Fujitsu FM-7.

Yeah now that I think about it, I never fixed most of the release dates so they're totally off. I'll get that up in order when I get home.

Well, looks like I'm offically broken in now. ONE OF US... ONE OF US... sorry, I just can never resist when such opportunities present themselves. ;D As I said before, KICKASS article. Though... don't you agree that the last boss of TF5 is a shithead in every sense of the word? Grrrr... oh well. Beat him once, at least.

Thunderforce II>>>>>Thunderforce III It's just the way I feel not that TFIII sucks TFIII is too damn easy. Props to EXM for recognizing this small factor.

If you guys like the original Thunder Force and Thunder Force II you guys should try out Last Mission (Data East), Vanguard II (SNK) and Time Pilot '84 (Konami). Fun stuff. It's also notable that Thunder Force III got an arcade port (Thunder Force AC) that's basically identical to the Genesis game except as far as I can tell you can't control the level order. I'm not totally sure if this was a full port or if it was a Mega Play thing (Sega's equivalent of Play Choice 10) that was put on a dedicated cabinet. I think two of the levels are different. Somehow I read the whole article and didn't even notice that you devoted a whole paragraph to this information. I'm pretty retarded. Oh well.

Can you add a screenshot of the city underneath the third level of the Saturn version of Thunder Force V? Or is there already a screen shot there?

It's already there. It's the top comparison pic. Notice that purple on the Saturn screenshot that's not in the Playstation one? That's the city. It's hard to tell when it's not in motion, though.

Wow so that's the city. I guess the statement about both versions looking pretty ugly wasn't kidding.

Yeah it's nothing to brag about. It's only notable because the underground city on a different scrolling plane, so it looks kinda cool. But the textures are still really blotchy and ugly regardless.

Does anyone here know where I can download the Sharp X1 version of TF1? I only played the PC-88 version and it lacks colors compared to the X1 screenshots I see in article.
