While X-Men Mutant Apocalypse has some level design similarities to Mega Man X and Mega Man Zero, the games are quite different. In X-Men, like in most beat 'em ups, and unlike Mega Man X and Zero, you can walk over enemies and they can't hurt you unless they attack. Also, as was said before, X-Men requires you to beat groups of regular enemies in order to progress, unlike the Mega Man X and Zero games. - Neither King of Dragons nor Knights of the Round (nor any of the ports for PS2 and XB) in the Capcom Classics Collection series are "perfect ports" at all, starting with (though not the only issue) a severe differentiation in the graphic presentation due to resolution discrepancies. I'll elaborate on this. Aside from the use of anti-aliased upscaled graphics, which make sprites look blurry and less defined, in Capcom Classics 1 and Capcom Classics 2, the collections also have higher pitched sound, and various other issues like incorrect sound in one stage in Forgotten Worlds. CCC1 uses filtering that makes graphical effects look odd and some graphics look blurry. Also, it seems slowdown may not have been emulated. However, I found most of the issues to be minor. While not arcade perfect, I found the versions of the majority of the games in the CCCs to be very good. It also seems the emulation in CCC2 is a step up from CCC1. Aside from being all arcade versions, it seems to lack the blurry filter from CCC1. The quality is consistent between the PS2 and Xbox versions, unlike a couple of the Digital Eclipse Midway collections. As for the unicorn thing in UN Squadron/Area 88, the game is based on a manga/anime and it's not something that was created by Capcom.

I notice that my comment about Punisher being the most generic anti-hero character ever was removed. No big deal, but I stand by that comment. Cool to see this posted up on the main section of the site.

Hahahaha....yeah good job, man. I've seen us referenced on Siliconera, but I've never seen us on Kotaku. Great job, zzz, keep up the good work! As a side note, good thing we're adding the editorial team because that post on Kotaku probably will bring a bunch of new members.

Well, zzz, your article has been awesome enough to get me back on a beat-em-up kick. I just re-beat Warriors of Fate, Knights of the Round, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, and Alien vs. Predator just today! Though, I would like to note a fluke in the AvP section; unfortunately, there is only one level where you ride on top of an APC and blow the bloody hell out of all aliens that try to assault you. I kinda wish there was a second one, but no such luck.
A fine look at some of Capcom's non Final Fight Final Fight-esque titles! Though, I've only just recently played Mutant Apocalypse and War of the Gems, and I'm not quite sure what to think of them. Though, I think that MA is the finer of the two games... I dunno, but something about WotG feels a bit off. Like... it's way too damn difficult, for one thing.

Someone should make a 'Disney games made by Capcom' article.
90% of the best Disney games ever were made by Capcom. Duck Tales, Little Mermaid, SNES Mickey Mouse, Rescue Rangers, Aladdin, etc.

I really want to do a Sega-developed Disney game article (Aladdin, Quackshot, Castle of Illusion, World of Illusion, Fantasia, etc.) but I still have to work on all of my other stuff first. Maybe someone could do the Capcom-developed Disney games at the same time because in many ways they were the opposite of the Sega ones. Capcom basically made all of the Nintendo versions of the same liscenses but made completely different games out of them (i.e. Aladdin and Magical Quest). It would be cool to have both the Sega side and Nintendo side in one article. Anyone interested in working on this article with me? I wouldn't start it until I have my other stuff done but I'll contact you all about it when I'm ready.

I really want to do a Sega-developed Disney game article (Aladdin, Quackshot, Castle of Illusion, World of Illusion, Fantasia, etc.) but I still have to work on all of my other stuff first. Aladdin for the Genesis was only published by SEGA. Virgin games, including some members that later formed Shiny Entertainment, designed it. Notice the design similarities to Earthworm Jim, Global Gladiators, and Cool Spot? SEGA did design the vastly different GG version, though. I would also like to see a SEGA-developed Disney game article with the GG, SMS, or GG/SMS games like Donald Duck's Lucky Dime Caper, Caslte of Illusion (different from the MD/Genesis version), Land of Illusion, and Legend of Illusion included. I noticed some odd design similarities with some of Capcom's games for the GG Castle of Illusion. It even uses a Capcom style font, if I remember correctly. It's probably a coincidence since the credits at mobygames suggest it was done completely by SEGA, though.

Yeah, it looks like Kurt and I have the Disney article reserved, him doing the Capcom side and me doing the Sega side. We're trying to see how we should approach the article concerning the publishing/developing issue. I'll make another thread about this article so we can debate it.

Great feature on a great genre. Let me point out some more port-related details that the article didn't cover.
Tenchi wo Kurau (the original beat-em-up) was also released on the PCE CD, albeit with worse visuals (as with most arcade-to-PCE ports).
The PS Captain Commando actually supported 3 players but still not the entire 4 players from the arcade version. The PS2 version, on the other hand, supports all 4 players.
Both ports of Cyberbots offer voices not found in the arcade version.
The SS version of Tower of Doom does not require a RAM cart to play. Both games have somewhat annoying loading times.

Hi.
I think that would be a nice thing to point that Dungeon and Dragon: Tower of Doom was produced by George Kamitani, the head of Vanillaware.
It´s clear that ToD bears his mark show by more realist but slower animation than most games.
I don't know how involved he was in shadow over mystara since has a way worse animation work but features the rotating item ring present in Odin Sphere and Princess Crown.
