I realize that this thread is mega ultra super old, but I always think that it's kinda cool to see HG101 getting some love from a non-English language blog (or whatever the fuck the site is). b.hatena.ne.jp/entry/10235331

Wow I was just thinking about this thread. I went and read the article again, seeing as I've never given Capcom beat 'em ups a fair chance, and boy was it worth it. I just gotta say that you did a mighty fine job. ;D I'm loving it. *badadadadaa*

Now that this thread was now bumped, I might add that Dynasty Wars (the first Tenchi wo Kurau game) shouldn't be considered a Final Fight clone. It was actually released first. This is why the game is really nothing like Capcom's later beat-em-ups.
Dynasty Wars - April 1989 Final Fight - December 1989

This isn't about Final Fight clones. It's about Capcom beat-em-ups.

I just beat Knights of The Round and it was awesome! I played as Lancelot and loved the level up changes. Next up, Punisher.

This isn't about Final Fight clones. It's about Capcom beat-em-ups. Then ask Kurt to change the thread title then. Either way, the article itself gives the impression that Dynasty Wars is a "Final Fight clone" when its not. Also, shouldn't Avenger be considered a beat-em-up? Even though it used an overhead viewpoint instead of the Renegade-like pseudo 3D view, it still plays like a beat-em-up. Not to mention it was one of the earlier games from SF1 co-creator "Piston" Takashi Nishiyama.

I just beat Knights of The Round and it was awesome! I played as Lancelot and loved the level up changes. That's a good game, no doubt about it. If you like the RPG-ish stuff in it then you'll really dig the two D&D games. That's awesome, too. Then ask Kurt to change the thread title then. Old thread, who cares. I honestly don't see that at all. It's only a beat-em-up in that you run around and beat people up. It's closer to an overhead version of those proto-beat-em-ups, like Kung-Fu Master, than it is a genuine beat-em-up.

And if you like D&D then you'll probably like Knights of Valour series It's as if the Capcom D&D games where cloned with Sengoku 3 with Strikers from KOF, the item/rpg-like system with huge juggle combo's and strikers www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gmn4BAzKvXE

Apparently they were made by some Taiwanese company called IGS, who developed a Neo-Geo-like arcade system called the PGS that had lineup of games that were mostly knockoffs of popular SNK titles. www.igs.com.tw/www/index.html

It's PGM btw (PolyGameMaster). Knights of Valour (Superheroes) Knights of Valour 2(: Nine Dragons) Knights of Valour: The Seven Spirits The Gladiator/The Road of Sword Oriental Legend 2 Can't go wrong with their Run & Gun/Metal Slug-like effort (at least it's better then Dolphin Blue): Demon Front

I don't know why everyone gets down on Dolphin Blue. It's a lot more interesting than any Metal Slug IMO. Demon Front is pretty mediocre as well.
None of IGS's games were knockoffs of SNK's. All of their beat-em-ups have the same fundamental leveling/item system taken from Capcom's D&D. System16 actually doesn't cover the PGM very well since it's missing a few versions of games.

I'm actually referring to IGS as a SNK-styled company because their support to 2d and reuse of sprite/characters in Knights of Valour is very similar to KOF.

I think it's obvious that IGS were trying to rip off the beat-em-ups and fighting games that Capcom and SNK made on the CPS2 and Neo-Geo hardware.

Knights of Valour is pretty damn good; I highly recommend it. Knights of Valour 2 is also pretty good, but I haven't had the time to play it as much as I did 1.
