www.hardcoregaming101.net/weaponlord/weaponlord.htmAlright guys, try to sell me on this game. I played it briefly to get a few screencaps and it struck me as being really bad. But I've read plenty of praise on it beyond just this article. So, why, exactly? And thanks to Crusader for the editing/formatting.

I have yet to be able to get into WL, but I need to sit down and really give it a 2nd shot. Supposedly, the fans claim it's one of those games you have to devote countless hours on and once you pick up the combos and such, the game opens up and you see how brilliant it is. I prefer more immediately accessible fighters myself. Good writeup.

It seems like a decentable article for what seems like a decentable game... but I'm not a fan of it, simply because the computer RAPES me every time and I never have a friend for fighting games. SOOOOO LONELY. Still, it seems like a cool game with an awesome setting, but its learning curve is even less forgiving than... just picking an example out of my ass, but how about SF3: Third Strike? *shrug* Ah well. The article at least sold me to give it another try. Nice work, triple zed.

The problem with this game is that it's an acquired taste, so to speak. It is REALLY REALLY hard to learn how to play the game correctly since most combos (and fatalities) are really hard to pull off. Most people just gave up on it after a few tries. The creator of this game (James Goddard) actually emailed me a few times last year telling me about an extra ending the game has. In the end it turned out that he never put it in the final game. He also told me about other modes he wanted to put in, I forget now. Here's some bits of the emails I saved: "Hey man, Just saw your WeaponLord ending faq & post on vgmuseum- cool!! I have wanted to do this for many years, just never got to it, so happy to see something like this. So many twists, I must have been on crack to make it so complicated back then J Just 1 bit of info, Bane actually has a special ending if he kills Korr that changes Barbarian and Warlord endings. He basically goes into anguish for taking his brothers life and throws himself off the cliff (into the pit of sin). Weird eh? Thanks for being one of the very few people on the planet to see all the endings and make it possible for others to finally see the depth of story the game had! - James Goddard President/Chief Planner, CrunchTime Games Inc. Chandler, AZ 480-XXX-6572" "Been busy with our new game that is getting bigger then expected and time has flown. I wish I could tell you it is WL2 but it is not (some day, I know I keep saying that), but I can tell you it is set in space and very different but oldschool.. and multiplayer with many of my style counter type special gameplay. Keep an eye out for the official announcement on my website in the next 2-3 months. Have a nice day. www.crunchtimegames.comkeep in touch. - James Goddard President/Chief Planner, CrunchTime Games Inc. Chandler, AZ 480-XXX-6572"

It IS a "bad" fighting game. It's the best "bad" fighting game ever made. It should have been just as big a disaster as Clay Fighters, but somehow everything came together into a coherent whole. The fact that it is perhaps the most complex fighter ever made to this day does not make it very beginner friendly, obviously. The appeal for me is probably that it is so different. It is not a game that I play constantly, but I do enjoy it, and it seemed like it merited representation here.

Can I copy some of those comments in the review? I think that help shapes it a bit.

If you mean James Goddard's comments, then of course. I don't think he would mind if they are used in an article for his game

What did James Goddard say that you would like to insert into the write up?
NOTE:
First paragraph, second to last sentence:
"There is no lack of overly dramatic wording that seems like those narrations from."
I believe it was supposed to say something like,
"There is no lack of overly dramatic wording that seems like those narrations from Conan the Barbarian."
I am not looking at the original text, but I believe it was something like that. Regardless of what it originally was, it obviously is not the complete sentence.
By the way, I would highly recommend that anybody here at least give this game a shot if they have even the slightest interest in fighters. Yes, it's way too complex. Yes, it's totally, utterly, collapsing on itself. The game is being held together with duct tape, and you can see that and "feel" that while you are playing it, but it really does work. It's a fine game, and if you spend a few minutes with a FAQ (try GameFAQs) to learn the controls, it is pretty enjoyable.

Hey ZZZ, you might want to mention the art design is Simon Bisley's. It was one of the game's main attractions when it came out.

I pasted it in the article, if you don't mind. Anyway, I fine tuned and added a few minor things, including a link to James Goddard's page.

All the text under Zarak is black, making it unable to read unless you highlight it.

Looks fine to me, although I stuck in an extra font tag. Does that fix it?

No problem whatsoever with quoting my comments. Looks good. Thanks for putting this up.
Off topic: You deleted DBZ HD from the reserved stuff topic. Is it being worked on, or what is going on with that?
