Playing through Final Fantasy VI again. I am so tired of hearing the veldt theme... I didn't even know I was racist, thanks.

Despite being extremely skeptical, I think I have at this point put in, rounding down, about 42098572094836752 hours into Hyrule Warriors.

I'm only about four hours into Saints Row IV, but so far I'm... not as thrilled with this game as I'd like to be, for some reason. I put it down in favor of playing through Resident Evil 4 for the millionth billionth time; I'll pick it up again after my Resident Evil 4 playthrough is done and give it another try. Maybe I just need to shift my expectations a little.

Maybe I just need to shift my expectations a little. SR4 is best viewed as simply souped up DLC, not an actual "sequel", but it's a lot fun provided you can look past that and the fact that the whole "you're the President" thing is a complete and utter gimmick (but a funny one at least), I enjoyed it a lot, but it doesn't hurt that the villain was voiced by the same actor who voiced the villain in my all time favorite anime, so I'm predisposed to liking any game that not only features him but has him singing a Biz Markie song! Anyway, I loved Fatal Frame so much that I decided to go ahead and buy 2 and 3, I've actually played 2 to completion before but it's been so long (11 years to be exact) that it's almost like playing it for the first time and I never got around to playing 3 at all, so I'm very excited. Unfortunately, though I'm not too far into it yet, I'm not finding 2 quite as scary, I think it's because of the change from the claustrophobic haunted mansion to the more spread out and open village, that and the music is not as creepy, however that's not to say it isn't still scary, because it is and it features higher production values with better graphics (especially on the ghosts themselves) and better voice acting, so that's nice.

I started off the Fatal Frame series with 2 and I definitely remember some memories of some really nice scares later on. This game made me dread just turning a corner. Those open pathways were always dim and the shadows made me believe anything could be lurking in them. I need to go through it again one of these days, and finally start the 3rd one since it's just been sitting on my shelf for the last few years. If you enjoy those games you might want to look into Kuon or Dreadout.

I'll try to keep that in mind; I think it was mostly how once you get to Steelport initially, you have super-powers which is kind of a nice novelty, but it's the same world, and the next couple gameplay sections that were introduced there felt pretty tedious to me (especially fighting that same alien miniboss every now and then). I'll go back to it though, and hopefully have a fresh take on it when I return.

Oh, the game has already made me jump pretty hard once, like I said it's plenty scary, but for whatever reason the atmosphere of the mansion in the first game really hit that sweet spot for me fear wise, I was scared to even walk around that place. However, the flipside is I would say the ghosts themselves are actually a bit creepier looking in this one (and a bit harder to fight too), so it balances out pretty well.

The first one makes better use of "empty" ambient music while inside the mansion which really helps the atmosphere a lot compared to the sequels, I love them all though.

I just took a gamble to see if I could Zanmato Omega Weapon while on the train to work. It didn't work, but I ended up toughing it out and defeating anyway. Even with his beefed up stats, it was a more abattle of attrition anything else. Now I just have to attempt some Dark Aeons before taking down Sin.

Zanmato works on everyone except Yojimbo, and even then only because you have to fight him multiple times. Kudos for sticking it out the legitimate way, though.

Thanks. The Magus Sisters took the brunt of his assault, but I was grossly under leveled. It was close to an hour battle.

Save yourself the trouble and just Zanmato everyone else! Then you can use the time you would have spent on beating them "the right way" by playing something new. I'm of the mind that if the designers put an option in the game, it's not cheating to use it.

It's why I just decided to not bother. I was kind of hoping they would've been more fun, rather than just having a prescribed way to get through it.

That's the ever-increasing problem with superbosses. They aren't something to be proud of beating anymore. They're just timesinks to pad out a game.

They've always been like that. Omega and Shinryu were both pretty much one way to beat them. The last RPG challenge I was proud of was beating Lavos on the first New Game + at the first opportunity.
