I wonder if the game progression was originally in a different order than in the final game, given the random slants up and down in difficulty.

It's not mentioned here but for a game of its era the localisation is surprisingly good I have to say.
Onwards to Mir Tower!

Dear whoever designed Mit Tower... why would you do this to someone let alone people who you want to enjoy your game?? Why? Teleport mazes make me cry.

Honestly I didn't find the teleport maze in Mir's Tower to be that bad. Then again, I sort of chanced my way through it and found the exit quickly. I'm thinking the next time we play a game like this for GC9X, I'm going to take better notes and screenshots of problem areas in the game. Part of the reason for that is because I'm having this weird post game amnesia with Landstalker. I hardly remember anything, and I sure as hell can't describe anything I do remember. I'm blaming the perspective for that one.

Here's some tips for that teleport maze in Mir's Tower... When you get into the maze, generally the best route to take is to keep crossing from the left (southwest) corner of the room to the right (northeast) corner. If you actually entered the current room from the northeast corner, try the southeast (down) corner. Eventually you'll get through.

Well finished the Tower. Teleport maze this time wasn't so bad, it was just a case of me going everywhere except the room which lead to the key. Not looking forward to Greenmaze and the final dungeon

Mir wasn't terrible at all, really. There were free EkeEkes at the save point. The boss dude was crazy hard to hit though.
Greenmaze, though? Took me forever to figure out about that dog. The annoying thing is to reach the dog you almost have to miss a jump. There is a rather dickish bit later on in the maze where they force you back to a previous part of the maze, but if you can make it back there you'll be very close to the ending.

I just can't stand teleportation mazes where there's no indication of where you'll end up. Got to green maze last night. Expect more moaning from me this evening

The thing about the greenmaze is that nearish to the start, you have to go ever-so-slightly out of your way -- there's someone you have to help before you can get to the end. Granted, once you've made your way to the end the whole maze isn't too hard to traverse (there are several significant shortcuts that help trim step-retracing time), but if you miss the important stuff the first time it's tricky to get back to the start so you can reach them again. I didn't hate Greenmaze, but that extra step was a bother (otherwise it wasn't too hard to navigate, really).
Also, holy shit be prepared for an insanely huge difficulty spike once you're through greenmaze. It is like ridiculous.

I have to agree with previous posts that if I had gotten this game back when I owned a Megadrive I would have adored it, I was actually looking for it back when it came out but couldn't find a copy/didn't have the pocket money. Despite the annoyances and some BS game design I am enjoying it, even if it really wants me not to at times!

So I got a chrome breastplate in the dungeony area after the shipride. It's in an area with some lava after a very, very long fall.
It seems that I may have missed an armor upgrade, and I suspect it was at Mir's Tower as i'm not sure where else I could have missed. Surely not Greenmaze! Explains why I had so much trouble after the ship sailed out.
Also you'll almost definitely want to rescue the one tree before you get on the boat, because if you haven't it gets a LOT harder to get back. And then you'll have to pay more for eke-ekes and there aren't any hotels either (not that it's a huge matter; 30 coins for full health (two ekekes) isn't a huge ripoff)

Finally beat the game last night. It certainly was an interesting of somewhat frustrating experience. The platforming segments seemed to be geared specially for punishing you if you screw up, even more so when you have to carry an object and throw it while on the move. There was one infuriating bit in Nole's Palace were it was impossible to judge your jumping trajectory between moving platforms. I seriously doubt my easily frustrated 10-year old self would have tolerated this back in the day.
