What is Dolphin Blue? I've never heard of that. Arcade-only Atomiswave game.

It's an Atomiswave game developed by Sammy. I was thinking it had a closer relationship to Metal Slug than it actually does. Had a notion SNK was involved, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Regardless, it's a run n' gun in much the same vein as Metal Slug. Here's an article. And here's a video:

I wish Dolphin Blue would be ported to something. Agreed. Too bad they didn't include it in the Metal Slug Anthology, since it's sort of a cousin to Metal Slug. Dolphin Blue is not even owned by the same company.

Figured I'd chime in here, since I did run what may have been the world's first English-language Metal Slug fansite for a short time (Metal Slug: Iron Cavalrymen in Hell, for those who don't remember). So I'm definitely a fan of the series as a whole. But individually?
I think Metal Slug 3 is absolutely fantastic, a truly brilliant game. The only Metal Slug games I enjoyed more than 3 were 1 (still my favorite out of the series) and X (and I guess by extension 2). Out of the rest that I've played: 4 was okay, 5 would have been better had it been, y'know, completed, 6 failed to make an impression on me and XX was okay.
Since this clashes with your opinion, feel free to call me a fanboy if you like, Mr. Ebb. I know what I like, I won't hesitate to say so and I don't give a damn what you or anyone else thinks of my taste. But feel free to take a nickel's worth of free advice: you'll live longer (in other words, you won't die from a stress-related heart attack) if you untwist your panties from the knot they're in, realize everyone has their own opinions, and learn to live with that fact instead of touting how right you think you are and how wrong you think everyone else is.

Mr. Ebb won't be able to respond to anyone's posts anytime soon. Just FYI.
But it is a nice surprise that this has turned into an outright constructive thread from its original flamebait.

I think I just prefer 2 to X because it doesn't "WHOA BIG" in as many stages. That, and I'd put a lot more time into 2, to the point where even though I'm crap at video games, even I once managed to make it to Stage 5 No-Miss. Of course, I got slaughtered once I got to Stage 5, and never bothered getting farther.

I've always wanted to play Dolphin Blue, but the emulation of it came about after I'd kind of moved on to a bunch of other stuff, so I've never really been able to sit down and put real time into it. Fired it up this morning a bit and love the hell out of the visual style. Might be a fun way to spend a week or two next year when I need an inbetweener.
What's the general difficulty of it?
Demon Front always interested me as well, but that's another one that was held behind a wall of emulation hurdles. Really would like to put some time into that eventually, too.

I tried my best, thank god I actually have never played Metal Slug 3.... The kid sent me a PM complaining on how no one would see it his way Personally I really enjoyed the first two games. I should try them without unlimited credits.... Otherwise it just seems like a tour through some really pretty sprite scenery. I did beat the first one in like 7 credits. I was pretty proud of myself!

I usually don't like to doublepost, but holy hell we are in a strange place when what he said was the least stupid thing said on the forum. There may be a reason this is really the only thread I post on anymore.... I do like how once again bumped a 6 year old thread to continue his crusade.

Anyway, this thread has reminded me that it's been a long time since I've played a Metal Slug game, namely because I haven't had my PS2 hooked up in ages. I may have to remedy that at some point. And when I do, I think I'll start with MS3.

Did the director of Metal Slug 3 shoot this kid's mom or something? Yeesh.

He was a troll who's fueled by arguments as to why Metal Slug 3 is awesome. Always been my favorite of the Slugs since it introduced the most new enemies and elements since the first game while remaining still a very solid game - plus some great set pieces. Really the bosses aren't that bad except for the level 3 boss (the floating sculpture thing is level 3 right?!) and the final FINAL boss (but what a fight).

Holy shit, he sounds like a fucking stalker/serial killer. I know right! I almost feel honored that he confessed this to me. Almost like I'm sort of protagonist in a crime thriller!
