That explains everything. And it isn't as difficult as he claims. If he thinks that MS3 tortures the players I want to see him playing Contra Hard Corps (even the japanese version which is easier than the western version). He'll open a thread saying how much CHC sucks and that it's the worst Contra game.

I don't know if going on a cross forum internet crusade is a very good way to deal with gaming induced anger.

It's like how Contra 4 took the series back to where it should be after the average Contra: Shattered Soldier and Neo Contra. Disagree. Contra 4 regressed back past Contra Hard Corps. Maybe III, even.

I would love MS3 if it wasn't such a complete credit sucker. They could've chopped it up and created 3-4 other games the size of MS2. Most of the bosses are extremely long winded and with random bullet patterns that every now and then becomes undodgeable. The second half of the game is just insanely tedious and difficult, or at least it becomes by the pressure of having 1h of on-your-toes / dumb luck game time already riding on it. The only real reason I prefer X to 2 is because of the frame rate issues 2 had. Oh, and 5 is actually a great game. It seems boring on the surface compared to 3, since you're fighting soldiers in brown/gray environments all the time, but the actual game play content is really solid. I would have loved it (and it would've been the second MS that I 1CC'd) if the final boss wasn't such a random B. Never seriously played 6 and onwards, since I got tired of the series ridiculous spikes in difficulty during their final stages (and randomed out bosses in general). Eh, I've always preferred Contra over Metal Slug, to be honest. Contra's difficult, sure, very difficult. But at least for the most part, you feel like there's actual patterns to learn and you're actually getting better over time. With Metal Slug, they just don't give a shit, and they're going to milk you of every credit you've got until you bleed. It's an arcade game, I know, but that's still bad design. Metal Slug stages are just series upon series of carefully crafted encounters for you to solve. They are just like R-Type in that regard. If you run forward all the time, you'll die all the time (MS3 is definitely milking you for credits though). As opposed to Contra games that are twitch based with rather bland level design. I wouldn't even say they are in the same genre.

The truth is that Metal Slug (MS for short) series from the 4th game and after lacks the freshness, variety and craziness of MS 2,X and 3. At least they're faithful to the formula, they're still enjoyable and they always add small details that will keep the interest of the old fans like the addition of Ralf and Clark from Ikari Warriors/King of Fighters as playable characters in MS 6 (and they followed at MS7), the Mission Mode in MS7 and new, cool weapons and vehicles (I love Car Slug in MS5). As opposed to Contra games that are twitch based with rather bland level design. I wouldn't even say they are in the same genre. But they're both run-and-gun games. Just because they are played much different doesn't mean they don't belong to the same genre. It's like saying that Tekken and Virtua Fighter don't belong to the same genre because they are played much different.
