I still oscillate pretty freely between loving and hating Dark Souls.

Can't wait to see what new, crazy shit they come up with. It'll also be interesting to see if the third game forms another schism within the community like the last one did. Either way, I'm down.

Here's hoping this is going to be as great a the other ones.
The only gripe I have with Dark Souls is that is such a pain to connect with friends and how they took out the cap for invasions. BPs assume they are in a level much lower than you and almost always resort to backstabing only.

I'm excited as crap for this.
Everyone who hasn't tried Dark Souls because of Demons Souls should take it from me; give it a chance. I also didn't get the appeal of Demons Souls, but I love Dark Souls. I've gone back to Demons Souls since then and now I "get" it a little more. I still don't understand the whole world tendency thing, but I understand the game's overall flow much more.
That said, both games really need a better tutorial section; they fail to teach the player anything except VERY basic combat. My entire first playthrough of Dark Souls acted as my tutorial, but with a little tweaking, the Asylum could have taught players things like: jumping, summoning helpers, how invading works, the whole point of humanity, what different consumable items do, etc. I don't mind a trial-by-fire game, but that turns a lot of people off of the Souls games.
I'm convinced, btw, that Dark Souls is set within the Giant World that was inaccessible in Demons Souls (the broken stone). There's a giant crow, giant skeletons, giant boars...plus Patches is in both games so this is the way I like to make sense of it. I assume the only reason From sticks to their guns when it comes to calling Dark Souls a spiritual successor is purely a legal one. Frankly, I'm amazed they got away with what they did (recurring sound effects, gameplay mechanics, terminology, enemies, enemy patterns, and good ole Patches the Hyena). I'm also convinced King's Field's lore is related somehow.

Demon's is a different beast from Dark - in spite of the names, it's actually much darker in tone. The bosses are a lot more creative as far as storytelling goes, but they're not nearly as fun to fight (the exception being the Old Monk if it works the way it's intended to)

Clearly I died, came back as a mummy, and went off to murder the gods. And then died about a thousand more times getting stabbed in the spine by teleporting motherfuckers.

If I'd seen this before I put that order together the other day I might have, but now I'm pretty well tapped out and don't want to string another $25 of stuff together. Bummer.

Basically, to backstab something else I've found you need to "neutralize" the controls once you're directly behind something. Come to a complete stop, and then attack.
