I don't remember Rosella's song that strongly, but I do remember "Girl in the Tower" from KQ6. For some reason, the CD we had (which we had purchased from a computer show) was created incorrectly and was missing the CD audio track that contained the song. So when you got to the point where it was supposed to play, it was just...silence. Apparently they were really trying to hype that up, that early releases had a little note to call your local radio station to play it. I can't remember if there was somewhere else I was able to hear it, like borrowing a friend's game, but when I did, it was really cheesy and underwhelming.

KQ7 was the only one we had when it was new, and we could barely play it since our computer was a little out of date (486/33, 4 mb RAM) and any game that ran in Windows generally had a hard time. But returning to it on proper hardware, it's just not that great of a game. Sticking you off in that desert for the first chapter was just the most boring idea. The animation also looked top tier at the time, but going back at it with a more critical eye and you can see how cheap and off model it is.

Hmmm....I guess so. The ones in the game are like the giant ones like trans ocean Atlantic/Pacific ones, and the ones I've seen online aren't nearly as big, but if they exist, they exist.

I don't have anything to add except wandering in here and basically going "Sargon of Akkad did nothing wrong" when there's a virtual library of documented trash he's pulled reflects extremely poorly on both of you.

Is it me, or have the NSFW images been removed from the Dragon Knight articles? Is it because with the new system you could no longer have an image different from the preview? Maybe there could have been a link labeled NSFW to still keep them without having to show them directly on the page... or can't they be featured in any way anymore? I uploaded the old one to the new server: www.hardcoregaming101.net/dragonknight/dragonknight.htmThe reason? Google Adsense. Ever since I moved to the new site they've been MUCH stricter on not only "sexually explicit" images (and I put that in quotes because it highlights even relatively innocuous stuff from games like Darkstalkers and Gunbird) but "shocking violent" ones, which means I had to remove large chunks of Bloodrayne, Harvester, and a few others. Even the "CENSORED" ones got flagged. We used to get around this by disabling ads on pages with adult content, which is much harder to implement in Wordpress due to the template, but even then, I'd been getting weekly emails of the random stuff they had problems with. Last month I switched to a different ad host, though, and I don't think they're as restrictive, so it's just a matter of going back to the individual articles and re-adding the shots to the gallery.

I was wavering with tagging it "kusoge" but due to the actual contents of the article I decided against it.

The entry on Game Catalog outlines its issues, you can plunk it into Google Translate to get a rough idea: www26.atwiki.jp/gcmatome/pages/3043.htmlThe biggest one is that the game was very obviously incomplete, the manual mentions the three stages and says there are later ones, but there aren't, and the area-warping was clearly something implemented to hastily lengthen the play time. Add this to being a launch window title, which got the benefit of a lot of exposure, plus the tie-in license, and it's easy to see why there was a backlash against it.

I saw somewhere that Yacopu (Trip World) is somewhere in Blaster Master Zero 2. Still need to play it beyond the first few minutes (daughter's been playing Yoshi's Crafted World so the Switch has been taken over lately).

It's less that Twin Snakes suffers from disc rot so much as the disc labels is subject to detererioration, more so than other games. I've had a few copies of this and noticed how the discs looked over the years in storage, but the game itself still plays fine.

Beyond Japan's history with Christianity, most religions followed in Japan are not monotheistic in the way Christianity is. I'm hazy on the details from Lunar, but the idea is that if you put any being in total charge, that position can be abused. If that being is benevolent (Althena, New Testament God), then great! If that being is not (Ghaleon, Old Testament God), then it's not so great. So it's better to leave the ruling in the hands of the people rather than having a corruptible (or perhaps, erratic) entity in charge.
Even if you look at it metaphorically, it's an argument between a dictatorship and a democracy. I think you'll seldom find the argument for a dictatorship even in (modern) Western fiction. You're unlikely to find a counterpoint in Lunar because that counterpart is "I want to be ruled and be told what to do". The best chance for a counterpart would be in a totally different series, like Shin Megami Tensei titles with Law/Chaos/Neutral alignments, because that philosophy is the core of Law.

I could’ve sworn there was an article on Langrisser before but now I can’t find it... Am I blind? Or was it all a dream? Same with Growlanser, I think? Yeah, but even back then, it was never really finished. There was always a blank spot where the Dreamcast review would've gone. It hasn't been ported to the new site since I kept it on low priority and wanted to rewrite/revise it...but it's unlikely I'll have the time in the near future. Growlanser, however, was never covered.

I guess it must not be dumped anywhere? Is that link just a demo or the full game? I'd purchase it for $75 but the shipping cost to US kills it. I wonder if he'd consider an offer for just that one game?

July 2009 was the date we moved to Kontek, so that directory has been around longer than that. I actually had intentions of writing it much earlier, probably back in 2007, but as you can see, I never got very far. As Toei noted, there is a Phantasy Star series currently in the system that's being worked on...but annoyingly, when we start a "series", it will show up in the searches even if no articles are currently published for it. But it is coming! Currently scheduled for April.

Coincidentally we were discussing this one the Dragon Quarter podcast (which we recorded last week but probably won't be up for another month or so).
As you can see, the original author of the piece was really, really harsh on the game, so I want to have it rewritten with a more measured take on the game.

This is a really cool story. I'm glad you got to meet him!
There's one guy I know who's a dealer of retro games, when he was in Japan once at some kind of DJ show, he was randomly introduced to the composer of Gimmick, who I guess hangs around that scene.
