Also important to note - softball is primarily a woman's sport, so an alternate interpretation of that message would have been "you throw like a girl". I'm sure I've mentioned this before, they should teach kids how to take an insult. Alternatively, teach kids not to be assholes.

I mean, is it that bad? A girl thought a game said something dumb, wrote the manufactuer and told them how she felt, and they were like "yeah, okay, that actually is kind of dumb, we will try to make this product better".
Honestly the framing of these type of everyday complaints as people being "offended" is much, much worse.

This is a great sounding album! I wish they sold it regularly because I'd definitely buy it. Natsume had some awesome music.

What the heck is Treasure up to nowadays? Their last game seems to be that Japan only Gaia Crusher 3DS game from like, 2014. Pretty sure it's just down to one guy, the CEO, Masato Maegawa. Outside of porting things like Ikaruga, they're basically just a holding company at this point. I tracked down one of the other ex-Treasure folk and am hoping he'll agree to an interview. Fingers crossed!

So... Is there any chance the stylesheet for hg101.kontek.net is going to get fixed? It looks like it's just a matter of uploading articlelayout.css , articlelayout-alt.css, and styleswitcher.js to the new server. Or is that just not feasible? I fixed it using the Stylus add-on in Firefox just by adding a new style for the hg101.kontek.net domain with the whole contents of articlelayout.css pasted therein. The issue is that Kontek switched over to HTTPS while the main site still uses HTTP. Because of the mismatch, the CSS breaks. I actually tried changing the new site to HTTPS, which actually did fix the Kontek issue...but separate problems broke the Wordpress template, so rather than puzzling out how to fix those, I just reverted it. When the site migration is complete, I'll be uploading a bunch of the old pages on the new server just to preserve them. If they're on the new server they display just fine. This is a problem because most of the individual page HTML files use absolute addresses (referring directly to http://www.hardcoregaming101.net) and not relative ones. So we'd need to fix and reupload thousands of HTML files to fix this. It's not impossible but considering they're archives and there are more pressing things to do, it's low priority. If they were all relative, it wouldn't be a problem.

DQXI does haven an orchestrated soundtrack, but only in Japan. Koichi Sugiyama (the composer) supposedly blocked it's Western release. Nah, it's MIDI in the Japanese release too. It's the 3DS ports of DQ7 and DQ8 that had orchestrated music in Japan but were stripped for international release. I actually kind of like the overworld and battle themes in spite of the cheapness, but they're also used way too often. There's not nearly enough variety in the soundtrack, but that's also been a problem since at least DQ7. As JRPG length grew, most soundtracks expanded, so in the official soundtracks, you'd have three or four CDs filled with music. Dragon Quest never scaled in the same way and so they've typically only had two. Even DQ11's is padded out with a lot of tracks from older games. I actually once had a fever dream where I was stuck listening to various Dragon Quest battle themes and was unable to escape them because I couldn't remember which individual games they were from.

There's Radiata Stories and Radiant Historia, two completely unrelated RPGs (though they did share some staff).

I picked up Armello on the PS4 as a gift for Christmas, and the text is obscenely hard to read. It's a port of a PC game but it's obvious the developers didn't test it out in a living room environment. It's such a dumb oversight. (Then again it's also a board game with no local hotseat multiplayer which also seems like they didn't plan much of anything for console ports.)

For me, I played FF Tactics first, then went back and rented one of the Shining Force games (I forget which), and I just couldn't get into it. Granted, it was a much older game even by that point, but I think it also kind of ruined Shining Force in general for me. I only played a bit of 3, and while I liked the music and presentation (for as much as a Saturn could do), it just didn't have the system depth.
There's a lot of tactics games I can't really get into because they just don't stack up to FF Tactics. The closest are some of the Front Missions (3 and 5 are my favorite even if 3 is pretty simple) and the Devil Survivor games. Valkyria Chronicles is pretty good too though it has a number of other quirks that annoy me.

I was reading the Dusk article you put up and it mentioned the grenade launcher being different to the one in Quake. In reality, it was obviously inspired by Team Fortress Classic's pipebomb launcher. Good call, I've never played Team Fortress. *edit* Actually, reading the wiki...they'd only kind of similar? In Dusk they'll still detonate if they hit an enemy, but you can choose to detonate them on command too. It seems like you need to force-detonate them in Team Fortress?

Nope, there's really just the Original and the two Advance games. Though Crystal Defenders and Revenant Wings might be worth a mention, since they also are tactics games in Ivalice. I'm gonna eventually assemble a book that has all of this, plus Final Fantasy XII, as well as a new Vagrant Story article.

So how many games will be in the article? All three are posted. There's also a mobage but it's been out of commission for over four years.

www.hardcoregaming101.net/final-fantasy-tactics/Part of the foundation of the strategy-RPG genre, and still one of the best of its kind. This article took a LONG time to put together - I think I was playing these games around this time last year, just to give an idea - so pardon any messiness, or if I got anything wrong. In the three times I played through the original FFT, I never really understood the story, so most of my comprehension was gleamed from reading wikis. The Advance titles will be featured in the coming days.
