I looked into this series a while back and I thought it looked really neat, but I couldn't get a grasp on whether I'd actually enjoy playing it or not. It is perhaps a little too unique for me to quite 'get it'. Hopefully you will have more to say as you progress. Nice to hear you're having a good time with it though. Well I'm fully addicted to the game now. I can safely say it's incredible and can't wait to try the other games in the series. It's basically you creating Rube Goldberg Machines to kill enemies in the most creative way possible. There is a fdanger you can always fall back on the same old traps but there's no fun in that. However the game actively encourages you not to. Some enemies are invulnerable to different types of traps or only vulnerable mid combo. You can make these enemies vulnerable to all traps by breaking their armour by hitting them with their weaknesses in a combo and sending them flying. There's also three girls that give you optional objectives during stages. It encourages you to get creative. I also like that you don't level up in this game. EXP and currency just unlocks more traps so you can have even more fun and experimentation. Stages are littered with stage hazards as well which you can use in your combos as well. It's all about positioning the enemy to be hit by the next contraption and it's so satisfying when it works. And then there's a mission mode that gives you bite sized timed objectives to complete that are like little puzzles. It really teaches you advanced techniques like repositioning traps mid combo to extend your combo well past the amount of traps you are allowed to set. And I've not even gotten to the Nightmare Princess expansion! Thank you for the write up. It does sound very interesting and from what you say I can get more of an impression. I am interested for sure. I could do with another game on my Vita. ------ spanky - that's why boarding schools exist ------ 🧀Son of Suzy Creamcheese🧀I know you have pretty varied taste so I'm sure you can always find something to play, but from what I'm gathering your favoured experiences are multiplayer and mid length games with a decent budget behind them (a little unsure on whether this last part matters to you), both at retail. I can see why you are asking for more from that perspective. I don't think there's many mid length games about from larger publishers - it is mostly indies filling this space for me. Much of my games budget goes to the limited run companies because that's the length of experience I'm often asking for myself, although I don't care about the budget very much. There are things that can be done only with a larger budget behind it though. I would say Sony games are usually in this length category, but they are generally story oriented. As for multiplayer, I don't play too much as we've discussed before, I really don't have friends in my life as an adult who play video games so I'm not too knowledgeable in that area. There does seem to be a lack of variety and very much everything seems to be free to play which I doubt appeals. I'm not sure if games like Mario Golf or Mario Party fill your wants at all? I think there's a bit too much sequelitis going on also, so whilst there is a lot of demand for a new Mario Kart for example, it's kind of old hat. I think ARMS was a new attempt to reach this kind of market, it just didn't really catch on. As for myself, my multiplayer vice is Monster Hunter, which of course is just around the corner, and it's been a long time since the product and platform met what I was looking for. I'm honestly dreading it as much as I am looking forward to it. I just don't know how I'm going to get anything done.

I'm going to go with it's all the Splatoon😉 In all honesty, it probably is the biggest contributor. And next year Splatoon 3 is coming out, so at this rate I'm never going to get anything done. I recently played maybe 4-5 hours of La-Mulana 1 before realizing that I cannot for the love of me keep going. I am just not good enough, or have patience enough. It’s a shame to give up cause I can see why this is such a well regarded game. But I can’t figure out what the hell I am supposed to be doing most of the time, and it frustrated me like no other game had frustrated me before. That is, frustrated by my own intellect, or lack thereof rather.... Never been so overwhelmed by a Metroidvania. It is a rather daunting game (or games rather). I want to go in as blind as possible, so I guess I'm just going to take an excessive amount of notes and screenshots to be safe. I know you have pretty varied taste so I'm sure you can always find something to play, but from what I'm gathering your favoured experiences are multiplayer and mid length games with a decent budget behind them (a little unsure on whether this last part matters to you), both at retail. I'm honestly dreading it as much as I am looking forward to it. I just don't know how I'm going to get anything done. It's not that I'm looking for specific types of games or for more games to be created of a certain types. God knows there are way, way too many games coming out, even as someone who just has a Switch (including local multiplayer, which I mentioned just as a comparison to what was eating up a lot of time in the 00's). It's just that a certain group of games seems to eat up so much time that I just don't get a lot of games done. It's easy to squeeze in some shorter games, which are mostly indie or older titles. It'd be nice to get some more 20-50 hour games in. Admittedly, it's one of the most first-world problems ever. But it is kind of a shame I'm not really experiencing that much of the current gen as it's going on. Ah well. As long as I'm having fun I suppose.

Ah, sorry, I get you now. I'm honestly not the type who can spend hundreds of hours on one game. Honestly, I'm looking towards the next experience half way through whatever I'm playing usually. But like you say, it's all about enjoying the hobby, and there's other ways outside of current games. Like you were picking up NES games recently and from your reviews it seems you were enjoying that also. Did you pick up any more games for that so far btw? Also for the record I'm ten years older than you, which would have been my guess. You made me feel jealous with talk of living on your own and spending your time watching movies, because I had a brief period like that in my life around 10 years since. Honestly it's a time I look back on quite fondly. There's never a sense of freedom greater than living on your own and being in control of your own time. Also my main hobby for a while was movies, and it's one I've largely had to drop in my current arrangement. It was kind of a simpler hobby...yet somehow, I still managed to wrack up quite a backlog. I guess I have issues with controlling my spending. Btw for you and shelverton - I think gaining mastery of La Mulana involves some sort of ritual sacrifice. I think it's somehow beyond the regular human mind.

IGN published their top 10 list of PS2 RPG's. I'm pretty sure I didn't play enough RPG's on that platform to make a great judgement myself, but I have to ask - if the PS2 is so great for RPG's, how did Final Fantasy X get on here? www.ign.com/articles/the-best-ps2-rpgs-of-all-time

Kingdom Hearts 2 as well.
Pretty shitty list. I'd chop a few from that list to add the actual good stuff.
And I agree about FFX. I liked it on release but playing the remake recently and it's not a great RPG. It's boringly linear, the plot and dialogue are ropey. The end game is garbage and unfinished. It's bare bones in the US release and the PAL/International release it's too hard and ruins any backtracking by gating off areas with dark aeons. All the super weapons you get by completing mini-games rather than actually mastering the combat.
And the combat only works in boss battles (where it's admittedly great).
It's only well remembered because at the time of release it was gorgeous and also the first decent RPG on the PS2 (Shadow Hearts came before it but it's not amazing, unlike the sequel which should be on the list).

I have gotten some new NES games recently, as a matter of fact. I got NES Open Tournament Golf (which is pretty deep/challenging), as well as Famicom copies of Lode Runner and Super Mario USA. And I finally bought a Famicom converter, so I can actually play both of these and the copy of Famicom Wars I've had for a decade with no means to play (I have completely forgotten how to navigate the JP menus by now). For some reason every time I want to buy a Famicom converter something goes wrong with the transaction or it doesn't arrive. Anyway, I got one now. And it works, but I'm not a big fan of how it works. I first have to shove the converter down the NES' hatch with my hand and then have to fanagle the inside of the NES and the Famicom cartridge around until it fits in the converter. I can't seem to just put the cart on the converter and then put both in the NES. Anyway, it works for the most part. It's funny how different NES/FC carts behave from one to the next. Mario USA starts up easily but usually crashes after a few minutes (gonna try again after some more cleaning, but this one might be a loss), Famicom Wars starts up with some difficulty but hasn't crashed so far, and to get Lode Runner running I have to let the NES blink on/off for 20 seconds on its own and then it'll stay on [ ]. I might have to try that latter strategy with more difficult games. Outside of movies I watch in the theatre I don't spend any money on movies if you catch my drift. I have considered getting into blurays in the past, but if you want to watch, say, 10 or so movies a month and you want to have some choice any time you watch one, it's just not feasible with my funds, especially taking into account that gaming is pretty expensive at times.

If the rumors I am hearing about with PSN,are true(which I think they are),this year we will lose access to thousands of PS3,PS2,PSP,and Vita games. Pretty much the Apocalypse.

Yeah, it is quite sad. I guess, some physical games will get higher prices on ebay & stuff. At the psn, there are still some classics, that are hard to get.

All over Resetera and Twitter. Some Vita porters even mentioned it.

If only PS5 offers PS1 games to buy...
I really got to dig out my PS3 and download some of the games I own in case. I used to have most of them to play on Vita but I want to get my PS1 download collection on PS3 if I can.

The rumour is that PSP, PS3 and PS Vita digital stores will be shutting down in a few months. ---- Niantec (Pokemon Go) are working with Nintendo on a Pikmin AR app. I tried to embed the tweet but it's not displaying properly.

After using OpenEmu for I don't even know how many years, I just noticed that putting the library into list view shows your total playtime 🤦♂️ I only ever used it in grid view since it automatically pulls cover art.
