Internet free? Of all the sacrifices you'd be making, the first that comes to mind is - how would you order a pizza??? Perhaps its a local thing, but any pizza place near me that still takes orders by phone I wouldn't want to be ordering from. One in particular doesn't even offer pineapple as a topping, at which point what's even the sodding point? Other takeaways such as Chinese are still old school of course. Edit: Just to be clear, I hope you don't think I'm being judgemental. It is just something I couldn't do is all.

So I'm about 65-ish% through Hollow Knight. Got all the mandatory abilities but I haven't killed any of the seal bosses yet.
The game is very padded out both in good and bad ways.
I've made peace with the difficulty but there are some design choices that are done simply to make the game longer than it needs to be. The combat is way too simplistic and you're almost constantly discourage from using spells in favor of saving soul for healing, whereas nail arts are in out of the way locations that you can only access after you're about halfway through the game.
As retr0gamer said, the map is pretty big and is not fun to go through areas again when backtracking which you will do a lot in this game. Warp stations are too scarce and too far from recurring points of interest and save points are 3-5 minutes away from any boss. There was no reason after getting all the mandatory abilities for us to not be able to just warp to any bench as stag stations outlived their usefulness. And these are just the major gripes I have with the game as opposed to other minor nitpicks.

And I admit that "getting off the grid" is a pretty ambitious goal for me - at the moment I'm far from there. Maybe it'll be just veeery little internet in the end. It's just that I don't like to be dependent on tech companies for the rest of my life. And nothing beats realworld human interaction anyway.

I really enjoyed hollow knight but the end game feels a little flat as you have all your abilities and are just checking off bosses and late game stuff. And the final dlc can fuck right off.

The simplistic combat in Hollow Knight isn't there to slow your progress but rather to ensure accessibility. By implementing a combat system which players can easily get to grips with and control this allows for the developers to present difficult challenges wherein the player will succeed and fail whilst feeling it is completely at their own merit rather than that they are fighting with game controls. There's also the added aspect of charms which you are encouraged to play around with in order to overcome a boss battle. Figuring out the optimum setup for your player is part of the gameplay and adds a layer of depth to the combat without impeding upon the ability to control their character.
I do agree that more warp points would have been a benefit for such a large map, although I don't think warp points being removed from boss battles is an issue since it is all part of the challenge the developer wanted for the experience.

Got an AV Famicom. It's astonishing how fast these things get here from Japan some times. Too bad the AC adapter I bought from France took long so I couldn't play it for more than two weeks (yes, I'm very impatient). Ah well. I'm running out of space on my NES shelf, so hopefully I won't need a 6th NES/FC. It also came with Pac-Man and Rockman 5, kind of a random combination. Interestingly, it seems like the later FC Megaman titles are cheaper in Japan than the earlier ones. Pac-Man is pretty nice to have. Can't believe it took me so long to own any version of such a ubiquitous game. It came with a dogbone controller as well. The wire's 2 centimeters, but it's nice to have since my other two dogbone controllers both have broken start and select buttons. And I guess it doesn't hurt to have a 12th NES controller. I'm jealous! I've been thinking of getting an AV Famicom, or even a top loader NES. For some reason, I've had the odd craving to play Zapper games like Duck Hunt, Gum Shoe, and Hogan's Alley. Pack and Rockman 5 are pretty damn solid games to add to the collection. I don't know what it is with how pricy early Rockman cartridges are, or more collected out of nostalgia. Rockman 1 and 2 just demand more money.

Finished Double Dragon on the NES. I just hear so much neagtive about this game due to the lack of enemies on screen and the removal of 2 player but it's a really solid beat'em up.
I decided to give it ago since I discovered the 'U can beat video game' series on youtube which makes some of these NES titles seem a lot more manageable.
Saying that, my attempts to crack TMNT haven't been going so well.

Saying that, my attempts to crack TMNT haven't been going so well. I love the NES version of Double Dragon. It's pretty tough but not impossible. The difficulty hits that real sweet spot where I usually can beat the game during a playthrough but not always, so it adds some real tension to the endgame. I think it has some great aesthetics too with some of my favorite backgrounds and environments on the NES, like the creepy purple skies in Mission 3. It really stuck with me as a kid. TMNT takes time. It was one of my most played games as a kid but I don't think I beat it until I was in my mid 20s... There's several areas in the game that basically serve as brick walls. Like the dam, or the mazelike in level 3, or the random placement of the Technodrome in level 5. The very last area of the game is a complete nightmare until you figure out how to trick the jetpack guys into flying away from you. The final boss is a snap though.

Man, the current voice for Bugs Bunny is pretty awful. That game doesn't look so hot either.

The arcade version of Double Dragon is too much of a quarter muncher and the gameplay is quite bland I think. I do not enjoy playing that at all. I always found the NES game to be a large improvement to the gameplay, and the rebalancing makes it much more of a positive experience to me. But then again I am often of the opinion that home ports are the better versions so perhaps I am missing what people like about that version.

I really want to like the arcade version of DD but it suffers from crippling slowdown that makes it really unenjoyable to play.

Seems like my combos always got snuffed out during mid hop. TMNT is pretty damn tough, but if you can make it past Double Dragon, you can get TMNT down. I always had trouble with the closing killer walls leading up to the giant mouser, and the last segment of the Technodrome, leading up to Shredder. I started looking up Arcus' youtube video on his TMNT speed run to get some idea of how to finish that last segment with the jetpack laser enemies.

Something I been doing for a number of years is watching Youtube videos of only boss battles in video games. There's two channels I've watched, Shadowserg or also called Castle of Dracula (must be a big Castlevania fan,) and Final Boss Games. One thing I wonder is how they are able to produce so many video in a short amount of time. FBG used to have hundreds of videos (they seemed to lost all of them but are putting them up at an incredible rate.) and Shadowserg has video put up every few days. Shadowserg videos are all or mostly done with boss battles with no damage to the player which in itself is quite amazing. I wonder how they pull it off as some of the games are really hard. Unless their cheating or are some kind of video game god. Thing is I'd like to start watching all the videos of these channels from the very beginning of when they started being posted years ago but I'm unable to figure it out. I found out that there a "Sort By" button to click on that one can select some ways of watching the videos and one of the selections is "Date added (oldest)" which is good but it doesn't let me use a "Play all" button like some of the other selections do. I read that when Google bought Youtube they removed a Reverse button feature on the site. There's got to be some way to watch these video one after another from the beginning.
