This always fascinated me since they sound almost identical when you first hear them, but when you listen more closely to the notes (especially in the original FDS Metroid), they're definitely different. But, I happened across these liner notes from the composers here, where Koshiro said it was very directly inspired from the Metroid tune: www.geocities.jp/yzymo_matan/yuzo_koshiro/yuzo/avg_rpg3.html

Though I think we all know by now that Koshiro is a serial plagiarist. Still his stuff always sounds like him. Plus the intro to Streets of Rage, man. He's great at conveying a particular mood, even if he heavily samples to do so (not to mention his source material often has a very different atmosphere to it).

Bubble Bobble BGM gets repurposed for a Korean ramyun ad starring Girls Generation. The clip has several ad spots. At 2:30 is the entirety of the full track in a "making of video."

In true Data East fashion, the main theme of Vapor Trail is a complete ripoff of the Afterburner theme.

The first level theme in Kung Fu Heroes (arcade 1984, NES 1986) is a ripoff of Wipeout (by the Surfaris, et al). Also, the NES version nicks most of its sound effects directly from Super Mario Bros. and Kung Fu. Seriously, just listen to them.

Nice catch! I personally couldn't hear the "Typewriter Room" influence, but "More Rooms" is definitely there, as is Metroid 2's Surface music.
Game looks fantastic, definitely something to look out for!

Nice catch! I personally couldn't hear the "Typewriter Room" influence It's a clever mixture of the two, i think you can hear fragments of it in the second half of the arrangement, but don't take it for granted. Here's another i posted in Outrun 2006 thread: The middle bit of Yuzo's offering sounds suspiciously similar to Fluke's piece in a sped up form. Or it could be just me.

Check out the music that inspired Koji Kondo's work for Mario and Zelda.
