It's been a while, but I finally made some time to check a lot of these out. I've got a few questions: Run Like Hell has some arcade machines in it, you get to play a really cheap reflex based mini-game if you interact with them. No screenshots though thankfully it's early in the game. Are those hidden somewhere, or did you just want to make me play a boring game? I've played through two levels, then skimmed over Let's Plays of half the game, but couldn't find anything. The one walkthrough on Gamefaqs doesn't seem to mention it, either. The last part of this article talks about that, in the SNES version. Thank you. That really jogged my memory too. The article there forgot to mention the playable B&H Astroids game. Wait, B&H Astroids game? Is there another arcade later in the game, or is that only in the Genesis version. I've played to the arcade in the mall on SNES, but the only playable game was Buttfighter.

Retro City Rampage has arcades. Games in said arcade are also playable!

In my mind, bad playable arcades are part of many classic Adventure games, but right now I can only think of that terrible Street Fighter Knockoff in Space Quest VI that knows its bad and expects you to cheat, the abismal arcade in Floyd and Toonstruck. Then, there is Earthbound off course, though nothing is playable there.

Dammit, I just wanted help with something, not MORE work! (Just kidding, the more the better. Keep 'em coming!)
Also, what are some video games with game consoles within the game world? Playable or otherwise. So far I've got Ganbare Goemon 2, Gokinjo Boukentai, Star Parodier, Banjo-Kazooie, Blue Stinger (which also has an arcade), Shenmue, Illbleed, GTA San Andreas, Saints Row 2 and Venus Hostage.

Each Pokemon game features a recent one of Nintendo's consoles in the player's bedroom. You can briefly interact with them before it tells you to get back to business.

derboo I'll look into the B&H game. I forget where it is As for consoles in games IIRC, Animal Crossing on GC had older Nintendo consoles you could place in your home. And Didn't Metal Gear Solid have play stations placed around Shadow Moses?

You also run across some in the arcade game Brute Force Old quote, but I just realized that the machines in this picture are supposed to be other Leland Corp games. Especially note the machines with the three steering wheels; those are supposed to be Ironman Stewart's Super Off-Road.

derboo The Asteroids(different name in game, not sure of the actual title) is 2P only and won't work in a single player game. So if you try to interact with the machine, it will act like the others.

System Shock 2 allows you to collect several playable games for your PDA-like device. Most of these are very simple, like Minesweeper clones and such, but they're fully playable, and you play them in real time while the game world moves on around you. If your character has a high enough hacking skill, you can even unlock a very simple RPG that is a clear homage to early Ultima games.

Pac-Man World 2 had I think 6(?) different Pac-Man arcade games that you could use once you found the arcade tokens scattered across the levels. Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga had an arcade in Little Fungitown. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax has arcade cabinets which players use to fight in lobbies. (Does that count?) I'm sure there's more, I just can't think of 'em all right now... Okay, I admit that made me chuckle. At least something good came out of that game, then! Still can't believe I saved up $75 to buy that piece of crap back in 1992. $75?! For the game alone? Shit man. Though I never did manage to beat that game way back when, I did enjoy it a bit. As long as I wasn't playing as Gambit, because fuck that level.

Satelaview-only game Kaizou Choujin Shubibinman Zero has collectable SNES-clones and games. They're just bonus items, but still. In one of the cutscenes, there's also a TV shaped like a Game Boy (with the coloured SFamicom buttons) in the background.

Yeah, everyone bitching about the cost of collecting retro games seems to either forget or not know that this is what those things cost to begin with. Cheap games didn't truly start until the PS1.
