Nostalgia time!
What was your favorite website about gaming and games that does not exist anymore? It could have been cancelled, or turned into something totally different, or just in permanent hiatus since a long time. I don't have a definite answer right now, but I can say I was disappointed in finding out that a blog I newly discovered, Creepy Gaming, was discontinued because the owner fell into a crippling depression. Also, I'm sad that the Metal Slug Database just kind of disappeared one day without any warning.

Back before they pushed the self-destruct button, I liked reading the reviews posted on the Working Designs homepage.
There were also a bunch of RPG-centric German homepages over the years that don't exist anymore. I don't think there's even anything worth a shit in that language to be found on the net these days that replaced them.

It would seem that Audio Atrocities hasn't updated in years with new entries.
I think that Tumblr ask blogs should count, especially if the author deletes the blog, taking unique stuff down with it. Don't do that, please, it's a shitty thing to do.

I miss Eegra. They closed the forums with no warning and let it go to pot, leaving users with no way to swap contact info.

You know, Woody, I too miss Metal Slug Database as well as to me it was the only true place that I really cared for in my teen years, as to me it felt like the series got some love. Perhaps it's slow disappearance is a metaphor for the series' relevancy, though I really hate to see how it would have covered those tower defense games that SNK is farting out.

Not sure how my 2016 self would like the inherent sexism and basement dweller-nature of it, but HigherVoltage was super awesome to my 2004 self. Also, UK Resistance. It's still online and all, but no new content for quite some years now.

I can't think of a totally defunct site, but I miss old Destructoid, from about 2007 to 2010.
Back when the community was tighter, the articles and reviews better and the overall atmosphere way more fun.

I miss the ShugaShack when Steve Gibson still ran it. I know ShackNews still exists in name, but it has changed hands a number of times and is just a label slapped on a web site and nothing more at this point. I also miss some of the other PC gaming sites from that era like Telefragged, Stomped, and VE3D.
Also gotta give a nod to The Magicbox for its years of scans of Japanese game mags, but it looks like a shell of its former self being little more than an infrequently visited forum at this point. Andriasang is another very big one that I'm sad is gone. They were fantastic at reporting Japanese game news. Siliconera and Gematsu don't hold a flame to that site.

When I first started exploring the internet I stumbled upon a website called All Game Guide. It was a huge database of what seemed like at the time nearly every game ever made, with many of them having a bunch of media like old commercials and stuff to go along with them. There were reveiws as well but most of them poorly written (like saying Front Mission 2 was the best in the series). What I really got from that site though was the list they had on so many consoles I had never heard of until then and a very detailed recollection of when most of them were announced, how their release went how well or bad its run was, etc. I learned a ton from that site and while Wikipedia can serve the same purpose now there isn't nearly the detail that website had. Not sure how long its been but they dissolved the website in favor of their other sites focusing on music and movies. Jerks.
I had a lot of fond memories of a little Nintendo fansite called Nintelligent. It was really well designed and the community was really pleasant for a good while. They actually took me on as a reviewer for a while and I made a ton of progress as a writer through that. Eventually though I just didn't have the time to keep up with it and on top of that most of the veterans in the forums just started turning bitter and nasty. Shortly after I left they tried to start covering more than just Nintendo but it all just fell apart. I think one of the founders was going through a really tough time and just couldn't keep interest in maintaining it. Hope things turned out alright for them, they were good people.
Maybe a bit too recent but it looks like The Castlevania Dungeon has pretty much died with its last update being in '12. I mean sure there isn't a whole ton to talk about Castlevania wise but that site was such a great companion for me when I was finally diving into the series and I've developed a bit of nostalgic investment for the site. Least it's still up though I bet there are plenty of holes to be found in it.

Agreed, the Dungeon was a great source for all things Castlevania. Sadly, a lot of what made it great has since been superseded or made outdated, and well, HG101 is a thing now and has held the attention of the original webmaster now. =P

I actually heard about HG101 a couple times before on the Nintelligent forums and skipped it since they described it as a blog site. My exposure to blogs before were just angry people ranting with a self righteous tone so I was all 'eeeuuuugh'. Once I realized Disco was the webmaster for here as well and saw most of the other writers took a level headed approach to covering things I was hooked.
It'll be a sad,sad day for me if this site ever shuts down, ha.

Hmmm, does anyone remember an old Final Fantasy VI fan site from the days of Internet 1.0? I think it was called "Town of Illusia" or something. The cool part was that the layout was actually shaped like a Final Fantasy village and you could talk to the game's characters. I think there was also a version of the site where you could actually move around and fight RPG battles with Celes while walking around the village.
Does this ring a bell for anyone? Now that I'm reminded of it I'd really like to know what happened to that site.

I don't think it's still around, but there was this site over a decade ago called Web Surf Nicaragua, which had a section called The Gallery of Screwed-Up Video Games. That was where I first learned about stuff like Chiller and Knuckle Bash and Shadow Warrior. I don't know if I'd like it still today, but I spent a lot of time looking through there when I was 14 or 15. Hmmm, does anyone remember an old Final Fantasy VI from the days of Internet 1.0?
