www.hardcoregaming101.net/megamanlegends/megamanlegends.htmMega Man's first foray into 3D isn't entirely accurate to its earlier games, but it does create its own charming little world. Part 1 of 3 covers the series' influences, the main characters, and the first game. The first game was also nominated as one of our 200 Best Video Games of All Time.

What! One of three parts? Why not just cover the whole series as there are just three games?
But I've always thought this series would be the first of the Mega Man series to be covered here as it's the least popular.

I dunno about Least Popular, depends on how you look at it. In terms of sale's it might be one of the least popular yeah, but in terms of critical opinion and fan following it's safe to say it's far more popular than ZX, Starforce or Battle Network.

Most everyone forgot ZX and Starforce even happened. Considering they were just lamer versions of X, Zero, and Battle Network, that's not shocking.

But anyway, I'm quite happy that we have an article on such a series that deserves attention and is becoming more and more one of my favorite gaming franchises. I mean, I never played the other Rockman franchises aside from Battle Network (which is awesome) but playing Legends 1 and 2 were a blast (and definitely not like enjoying sardines in response to a certain nerd who likes to bash on it).
Speaking of which I think the reason why it's the least popular is because its 3D and the people hating on them are probably nothing more than reactionaries who just can't accept the fact that the blue bomber can be anything as long as whatever it is can be awesome.

They're done, they'll just be spaced out over the next two weeks since it's a large article.

Bit of a tangent: Yoichi Kotabe, the art director of the Super Mario series (from Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic to WarioWare: Smooth Moves. Although he continues to contribute via commission) and various Nintendo properties (mainly NES-to-SNES era) was a key staff member on Future Boy Conan. So it's even more important to video games than mentioned here!

The memories... I never owned a Nintendo 64 but used to play Mario 64 and Meg Man Legends through emulation. Those early emulators where so tricky to work with...
Out of those two Legends is the game that really made an impression on me (especially that flying ship), in part, I think, because I hadn't been exposed to much anime at the time.

I played them on a PS1 emulator since well I couldn't afford them at the time but still playing them were a blast and now with them on PSN (like they should have earlier) a lot more people can enjoy them without bothering with emulation.
Me neither, as them cancelling Legends 3 was when Capcom really dropped the ball that it has been recently trying hard to pick up, harder than "rebooting" DMC and making the RE series more Michael Bay like than retaining the old early RE experience.

How is ZX (especially Advent) a "lamer version of X"? It's a Metroidvania game. The first Zero game experimented with that format, but IMO they're quite a natural evolution for the series. Especially given the weapons/form management, which is unlike any other MM game. (Also, don't forget that almost 50% of the X series are pretty mediocre, especially the more recent ones.)

He probably meant "lamer version of Zero". To be honest, the Zero series is mostly for the plot, given that your arsenal is very limited and boss weaknesses were eschewed in favor of a simple RPS system.

almost 50% of the X series are pretty mediocre, especially the more recent ones This is a clincher for why the X series was skipped in lieu of Legends. Also the fact that the Zero AND ZX games would probably have to be thrown in, since they're a direct continuation of X's story-- kinda how Starforce follows Battle Network. Considering that most of my fondness for the X games lies in the earlier SNES titles, it might become too much of a chore to trudge through things like X7 and finishing up the Zero Collection. There are a few odd text encode issues on the Characters page at the moment. I've sent a DM for the missing Inspector pic(s), since I swore I had them in the files. I'm unsure why the PSP cover for Legends 1 wasn't posted along with since it's so unique, or if it's being saved for later. Aside from that, from the pile of minutiae comparisons and references submitted, I do enjoy the original cartoonish design the Bonne mechs were planned to have. Only screengrabs from the E3 '97 showcase exist as proof. If you want them re-instated in the section about Legends 1, there's a simple addition [in bold] that can be slapped in.

Well, for the sake of the site, I would consider the X series separate from Zero/ZX. So if you wanted to focus on just those, that'd be fine.
I guess the issue persists though...there are only three really good X titles (X, X2, X4 IMO), the rest bounce between "OK" and "just UGH".

I guess the issue persists though...there are only three really good X titles (X, X2, X4 IMO), the rest bounce between "OK" and "just UGH". The major problem is that I haven't truely sat down and played through half of the X series in earnest. X1~3 I played and completed multiple times, including a legit Gold Z-Saber X run on X3 (Gotta love Blockbuster Video selling off its old cart of X3 for cheap in 1996!). I owned X4 and played to which my enjoyment for the X series died down, leading to only borrowing X5 from a friend and not finishing it. Seeing my friend suffer through X6's spike-filled mess didn't help matters, either. In contrast, I've completed the Legends trio and the DASH 2 JPN demo a couple of times and Classic series countless full runs for majority of the mainline and spin-offs. It's one thing to know a series line back and forth and never really touched an import-only handheld release or mobile port in it, but it's another to not have gotten around to playing a numbered main title or 3 of another. In that respect, a Mega Man X writeup might be better suited to someone with more experience.
