Minor update: I've updated the 1980-1989 pages with a lot of NES, PC and Arcade games as well as re-ordered all of those lists after listening through them again.

Update: I'm currently having a look at chip music in PS1 games though not at the crazy fast pace I did for previous systems. I'm also checking out early redbook soundtracks and adding them to the yearly lists, below the chiptune lists (scroll down). minirevver.weebly.com/vgm-1988.html

Added a page for CD audio (and LD audio) and have covered most games from 1988-1994 (I also ended up adding some MCD, FMT, Amiga and PC-FX chiptune OSTs to other pages). Just 1994 3DO games and possibly some PC-98 games left to add and then it's back to sequenced PS1 music. minirevver.weebly.com/redbook-cd-audio.html

Finished documenting audio formats used in 1995 PS1 games (and adding a list for its sequenced music from 1995 in the process): minirevver.weebly.com/audio-formats-in-ps1-games.htmlI'm gonna double check 1995 Saturn games and then update the general 1995 page with Saturn redbook audio, and probably streaming audio as well. Then other platforms for that year.

That Turtles in Time and Sunset Riders don't crack the top 20 is a testament to the standard of music in 91.

I like the '91 top 20 more than some others, but yeah. I'd probably switch out MM4 and Battletoads for those.
Oh wait, Civ 1 shouldn't be that high for PC. Good thing I checked the page again!

1992-1993: minirevver.weebly.com/popular-osts-1992-1993.htmlYT is being weird, actually had trouble re-finding some of the most popular ones when making the playlists and it had just been a couple of weeks. Also seems harder to find the most viewed video for an OST now, you gotta scroll further down almost every time and it might show several less popular tracks ahead of a more popular one even from the same uploader with the "most viewed" filter on. Edit: It can be interesting to compare the lists to the highest rated games lists on gamefaqs and such, to see which games are remembered more for the music or for the gameplay/as a whole. Some examples of the latter from 1993: Shining Force II Gunstar Heroes Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen Shadowrun SNES Disney's Aladdin MD

1993 is my favourite year for video games so I was curious how that would reflect in the soundtracks. It seems that it comes down to platform popularity a bit too much here with some of the very best OST's not reaching the to 10 (in the redbook audio section) - which of course isn't a knock on what is included. Still though here's just a couple of PC Engine shooters for that year...
On 1992 - OK so Turtles in Time makes this list. Also nice to see I'm not the only one listening to Top Gear. I'd have liked to see Spider-Man and the X-Men higher, though that's a case of a great soundtrack paired with a bad game so it's somewhat understandable.

One of my faves too. Yep, I was groaning a bit making the 1993 top 20 playlist (really making most of them since there are so many hidden gems I want to highlight instead now but I do it elsewhere). Expanding it to 25 and grouping together some multiplats helped somewhat but yeah.
Cotton PCE CD's is excellent! I do prefer the MCD ver. of LoT, even if it's more "clean" sounding.
Top Gear seems to have had a huge brazilian/SA audience, not sure why (one comment mentions it was in arcade cabinets too) but it's interesting to see stuff like that.
Some of Tim Follin's NES work has managed to overcome the badness of the games and become some of the most popular. Plok as well (although this is considered decent tbf, I just didn't like it much personally). I think Spider-Man & X-Men will get there with time.
Edit: A couple like Mario Paint might be popular more due to memes (it's usually one track that's much more popular than others, with unrelated comments below), I wasn't sure about some.

The Mario Paint thing definitely seems to be a meme. I know that there are people who use a music tool based on the creator but the actual in game music was never anything special. The ones I listen to are very nostalgia driven so like Spider-Man and the X-Men was the only Follin game I had as a kid and Top Gear was made by a local developer with racers being popular in the UK so we had that too. Mario Paint is a different kind of nostalgia that's less complimentary.
BTW off topic so apologies but I've been enjoying your SOTN work. Really nicely done.

Thanks! I might also do Cursed Prison, otherwise I'm done with those for now. I joined that project pretty late so I didn't have the best options available, but still got to do a couple of the better tracks. I do really like the ambient theme from Mario Paint, it reminds me of Brian Eno a bit. The rest I don't really care for. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIGB5mmx_lk
