So is this what the failed movie has been turned into, or are they still trying to make that one? I've only watched the first episode and I'll take this over a movie any day. And as long as it tells a complete story arc over two hours, good enough for me. The first episode was an effective intro.

Sometimes it feels like Warren Ellis needed to hammer the "you see, religion can be very evil!" concept a few times too much, and some edgy dialogue (like the conversation between a couple tavern patrons in the first episode) falls flat and is instead shoehorned and ridiculous, almost an abdridged version of itself. But it's generally great, as observed it feels like a quartet of OVAs from the 1990s, and it's the good adaptation one wouldn't have expected given the current state of the franchise. Even if this is labeled as "Season 1", in truth it will become a full one with the further planned episodes, as this closes soon after Alucard joins Trevor and Sypha, so no Grant for now. By the way, next to no Japanese people seems to be involved in the production. From the credits, actual animation was done in Korea. As for the old movie project, are we talking of the Paul W. S. Anderson one? That one sounded to have practically nothing but the name in common with the originals. The project pitched a few years ago by James Wan sounded much better, but nothing came out of it either.

Watched the first episode. Really digging it. Do agree it feels like a 90's OVA, which is exactly what I was hoping for. That's my jam.

Just got done watching all four episodes. Definitely impressed! They rush things a bit, but that's probably due to not knowing if they'd get a shot at a second season from the outset. Honestly, they did a really good job of working in established mythos while still doing their own thing.

I've said this before, but I really wish there really were early 90s OVAs based on Konami games like Castlevania, this sounds pretty close to what I imagined. Definitely want to check out.

I do agree that sometimes it feels a little like it's edgy for the sake of edge.

Yeah, sometimes it tries to be too edgy for its own good.
Overall it's a good show though. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Love the gratuitous violence. Also enjoyed the expanded backstory of Lisa, and how it is shown the way the Belmonts were ostracized and feared. They incorporated some nice story and even in-game events from Castlevania 3 and Symphony of the Night.
It's kind of funny to see Trevor as a bit aloof. Maybe no so quite Captain N Simon Belmont aloof, but more attitude a la Dante in Devil May Cry.

I was referring to the James Wan one, the one whose concept poster had a Belmont character holding both the Vampire Killer and a katana.

I enjoyed it. Morbidly curious what Kurt thought of it.

Watched and enjoyed it a lot. I must confess that I didn't expect a lot from this series, so I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality.

OK I saw the Netflix preview on Youtube of this show and it looks good as an anime. But checking the wiki on the show it seems there's only 4 episodes. What the hell! That's not what I call a season. At least three time that much is to me. On the bright side a second season has been announced with 8 more episodes. Still four or five too short. It's apparently less of a series and more a film chopped into four episodes.

I just watched all four episodes and it is FUCKING INCREDIBLE. Not that this is a high bar, but this is easily the best video game adaptation I've ever seen. Holy shit it is so good. If I were to get nitpicky, I could maybe complain about some things here or there (the episodes tend to end abruptly; they really do kinda feel like a short film split into four parts), but oh my gosh so much about this series is done so well. The characters and lore are developed pretty efficiently; the pacing is relatively slow yet directed with a purpose, while occasionally picking up during more actiony parts (so hey, kinda like the methodical pace of the games! lel); the violence, when it happens, is deliciously gorey and bloody <3 ; the art style and design of each character looks amazing; etc. etc. etc. omg I need to see more!!!! I'm glad there'll be another 8 episodes at least, that have been greenlit.

Yeah pleasently surprised with it. I apreciate the beginning alot since I've always found Dracula a layered interesting villain that doesn't get the more sympathetical aspects of his past explored enough.
Though that poor bat though didn't deserve that. Humanity is the real monster, who knew!

Yea like if your plan is to woo fucking dracula maybe you should start by not barging into his house and killing his pets.
