shelverton Very true. Lord of Shadows 2 was the last release right? I like the anime’s take on the series. Not too serious. People take the “timeline” far too serious, it’s good to see someone mess around in a different way.

I enjoyed Castlevania enough to look forward to the new season. It’s not fantastic but enjoyable. I especially enjoyed it more than the last few actual games in the series... So right now it’s the best thing that’s happened to Castlevania in years. Actually, it’s the ONLY thing that’s happened now that I think about it...... Not if you count Castlevania: The Lecarde Chronicles 2. It's a fantastic fanmade game, kind of like what Another Metroid 2 Remake is to the Metroid series in terms of qualitiy.

I have the second season on while I work from home today. I'm on the 3rd episode. They're doubling down on the "Dracula is sympathetic and just misunderstood! Humans are the real monsters!" angle which is hilarious IMO. FFS he's DRACULA, can't he just be y'know...evil? The music still sucks. I like the zombie pug though.

I completely forgot this was coming back today. Oh em gee! I have a busy weekend ahead of me, but hopefully I'll have time to watch it soon.

Just finished it up. I might have liked this season if I was a huge dweeb but marginally better than S1. They actually played a song from the games at one point! 2/10.

Definitely could've used more actual Castlevania music. Even Captain N and Super Mario Bros 3 cartoons used more video game BGM.
And where the hell was Grant?! So the writers go out of their way to introduce Hector and Isaac from Curse of Darkness - okay, not bad. That's a cool touch. But no Grant? He would've made for a nice addition to the last fight. Odd that they would make Isaac look like an Unsullied from Game of Thrones, when they've essentially stuck to contemporary graphic novel interpretations of Ayami Kojima's original character designs.

Having only recently got into Castlevania, I was surprised I understood as many of the references as I did this season. It was cool to see Hector and Isaac considering I had played Curse of Darkness, and the portrait of Leon from Lament of Innocence was a nice touch in episode 7. I do appreciate them fleshing out Carmilla a bit more since she was a character I was interested in, but knew nothing about aside from her literary origins. I was also expecting Grant to show up, but I guess they removed him to just focus on the main three. I really do hope we get a season 3, Warren Ellis vulgarity aside, I loved how this season slowly built up and then laid out all the action at the very end. Also, the Castlevania theme in the second to last episode was nice to hear.

Grant has always been the crappier character overall, deal with it. He's gone for good. Agreed about the music, they could have used some more cv music. The season 2 is far better than the first one, but it suffers of the same frickin slow pace for 3/4 of the episodes. I'm all for characterization but not when you obtain a boring product.

Crappy?! Unpossible! Even with his US release, puny dagger, you can cut through a lot of the game by scaling walls and ledges. He's much more practical than Castlevania III Alucard. Originally, he just throws an unlimited amount of daggers. I suppose Konami USA figured that would make Grant too powerful, combined with an axe sub-weapon.

I like Grant but his climbing controls are iffy, especially when you're trying to pull yourself up over a ledge. I've fallen to my death so many times...

Ok so i finally watched the entire season 2. I liked it! As for Grant, a lot of people seem to think Grant is one the bandits killed by Isaac in the desert, and then turned into a monster. I mean, it kinda could work i guess? The series takes a lot of liberties with the source material as it is...
Not having more CV music was a bummer but on the other hand, when THAT song finally plays, it’s all the more impactful IMO. It is, dare I say it, kinda tasteful and subtle as far as fanservice goes?
I wonder when/if we’ll see a game based on this? I liked the idea of a Belmont Estate, which could work as a hub / firelink shrine / batcave type of thing. Although I strongly disapprove of it being permanent neighbour with.... (yeah, no spoilers)..
I think Platinum for example, could go absolute Bayonetta on this and add some light RPG elements with a Metroidvania/Dark Souls level design. This is definitely more drama than action but the game adaptation could easily turn it out.

I believe Adi Shankar is on record saying that Grant isn’t in it. So, there’s that.
I did enjoy the second season too. Liberties are definitely taken, but it doesn’t bother me since the source material is basically “man has whip and knives, fights evil with friends”. Making it a bit of a Curse of Darkness prequel was a nice touch even if Isaac is a little too whiny. The Lament of Innocence nod was good too. And I like the use of a tragic Dracula instead of a 100% evil one surrounded by vindictive assholes.
