For some reason, I really like the music from Resident Evil: Gaiden. Maybe the synth just reminds me of the old days of gaming. It has a very nostalgic feeling.

I actually like Road Rash II's soundtrack, ( Genesis/Mega Drive version) and some of Battletoads and Double Dragons soundtrack as well. Hell yes. Most of the Battletoads games have awesome soundtracks, with Battletoads/Double Dragon being my favorite.

I'm gonna say shinobi 3, mainly cause I just saw that the article on this site said the music was mediocre. Any one else like this soundtrack as much as me? I will--Shinobi 3's soundtrack is awesome, and fits the game like a glove, seeing as how it's propulsive music for a game that is, for the most part about running ahead and killing the hell out of things. Also, there are moments where the music and the gameplay merge so perfectly as to be inseparable, as in the final boss of stage 6. Sometimes the right bit of music at the right moment indelibly impresses the game on your memory. As for unappreciated soundtracks not mentioned by someone else, I'll mention Mystical Fighter. The game is kinda rubbish, but the music is really moody and effective. The Genesis sound chip really did twangy Japanese-style tunes very well, I think. Oh yeah, and (I don't know if anyone mentioned it yet) El Viento has some pretty great music as well.

Here's a similar case for a soundtrack I like: Double Dragon 2. The composition of the tunes themselves are damn awesome, but the actual NES sound of them... well, it's rather soft-sounded and kind of weak. The only piece of music that has any serious punch to it is the final boss tune (which rules no matter what), but for the most part, the low volume and mild beats hurt the sound. I still like it, though, but I still wonder why it sounds quieter compared to the original NES DD soundtrack? Duude, it is super amazing! The tune that plays when you go to the island! It's pure awesome.

Bandit Kings of Ancient China doesn't have one of Koei's most popular soundtracks, and the arranged album wasn't very good either, but the soundtrack for the NES was great.
Trojan for the NES, was also great.

I think I remember people disliking Zone Of The Ender's soundtrack, but it really is great. It invokes such emotions!
Koei's soundtracks are AMAZING. Even earlier games where it's kinda repetitive its still good. Nobunaga's Ambition Rise To Power (which is later), for example, never got old. And my bro beat it TWICE.

I think most old-school Shinobi fans who grew up in the arcade era or where a part of the Genesis launch prefer Shadow Dancer/Revenge of Shinobi's soundtrack over anything else in the series, and that tend to be the most loyal and if not numerous Shinobi fans. Stage 4-2 of Shadow Dancer has one of the most rockin' tracks ever, I think . . .I like Shinobi 3's soundtrack quite a lot (as I've said elsewhere) bt that track has some serious visceral bite to it. And Cupido's theme is really the best thing about BAT remix. Toshinden music tends to be good generally but that just blew the doors down.

For me, it's Capcom vs. SNK 2. London stage comes to mind.

I'm probably one of the only ones out there who really, really loves the Tekken Tag Tournament PS2 OST. Especially Yoshimitsu's theme. I love that electronic voice that says "NO EYES, NO EARS, NO NOSE..." ect.
