And I just sent one of my Kusoge articles. The other one I still need to rewrite.

Apachacha, I didn't know you were still doing plain game reviews. That's awesome! On another related note, I'm very glad that the kusoge articles are back. I'll be sure to watch for them if more get posted.

I'll be sure to watch for them if more get posted. I didn't since December because I wasn't in the mood. I should have probably done one on the Peter Pan and the Pirates NES game. Still should probably do that.

I think you did a great job on this one. As someone who's played the hell out of Smash TV and Total Carnage, I think you did a great at talking about what exactly makes these games so fun.
One thing that might be worth mentioning is that Total Carnage doesn't have a "best" ending. If you make it to the pleasure domes, you're tasked with collecting bunches of bonus point garbage and then the game tells you to collect them all to get the best ending. Even if you have a friend plug in Player 2 and actually get everything, you still get the same "Collect all of the bonus garbage for the best ending" message.
Anyway, great write-up! I hope to see it sometime on the site!

I'm still in the middle of reading the Phoenix manga for research on the two Hi no Tori games on the NES and MSX by Konami, but I just discovered something I just have to write an article for.
There's this game called Layla released for the Famicom in late 1986 and it looks fantastic. Most of games of this era look like complete shit. It looks like it was inspired by Dirty Pair and goal is to defeat the evil scientist and get back the password disks he stole. This explains why Dirty Pair: Project Eden for the FDS makes absolutely no sense in relation to the movie. It appears to have in turn ripped off Layla, but the game is absolute shit.

Layla's not too bad of a game. A little confusing, but you're right, better than most of the era. It's featured in the 80s game heroine article, which we'll posting officially shortly.

So hey! New member here, long-time lurker, future regular contributor for the main site. Here are some of the articles I plan to write:
- Metal Black (already working on it, may need a bit of info on the Saturn port) - Space Invaders Infinity Gene (spiritual successor to the former and Gun Frontier, and a great example of a mobile game done right; gonna need some info on the PS360 and Android ports) - Pulstar and Blazing Star (two great Neo-Geo shooters, even though the first one is a blatant ripoff of R-Type) - Alpha Mission/ASO (SNK's duology of vertical shmups) - Splatterhouse (surprised there isn't an article on it already; gonna need someone to write the section on the last-gen remake/reboot) - Updating the Compile Shooters article (a hefty task, since it was the first article ever published on HG101!) - Shantae (great series of action-RPGs inspired by such universally despised titles like Simon's Quest and Zelda 2 with amazing sprite animation, awesome soundtracks and a crazy development history)

Heck, there are a lot of articles here screaming for updates (King of Fighters, Dragon Quest, Darius, Darkstalkers, Flashback, just to name a few). Speaking of which, it would be cool to expand the JoJo article to include all games based on it.

Speaking of which, it would be cool to expand the JoJo article to include all games based on it. I've also been thinking of updating the Darius article due to the series' close ties with Metal Black, but I think I'll leave this job for someone familiar with PS1/Saturn emulation to get pics and info on Gaiden and G (the former is fully emulated on MAME, the latter lacks the music due to its hardware being basically an overclocked PS1) and Burst, which began life on the PSP but enventually got arcade and iDevice ports, the former going back to the series' roots by being released as a triple-screen cabinet, now in glorius Full HD 2.5D graphics. I've heard a casino in Vegas has one of these cabinets... And not only that, MB is a superior game to any of the ones from its parent series, at least IMO While this is a valid comparison/argument, I think the MW series is far too obscure in the West for it to have inspired a game/series developed by a North American team. And also its gameplay and structure - particularly how the GBC Shantae handles grinding, items and the world map - is far closer to those of NES-era action-RPGs, at least in my point of view.

Only problem would be with Another Chronicle really.

Yeah, you're right. Matt Bozon says he didn't know Monster World IV until recently, while he was a big fan of the NES Castlevanias: www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDQUa_96N7E
