I remember seeing that, probably in the same speedrun. No matter what though people will find ways and exploit glitches in order to sequence break the game, if they choose to do so. And that kind of thing is fun to watch. I'm not going to fight to have every glitch the original game had in it intentionally put into the remake, but I'm not going to fight against it either. I never used that and I don't think many people who played the game did, 1. because it's obscure and 2. it's annoying to have to pause and unpause 4 times.
So I guess what I'm saying is that with games in general, people exploit glitches/bugs that are on the surface, obvious, easy, advantageous and when they're easily tempted into doing so by the game itself. Those kinds of glitches should never be present. Inevitably something weird usually pops up in these kinds of exploration games, and that kind of stuff is cool to discover and put on youtube.
One thing I love about LotW is it can reward curiosity or punish it, and is open to everyone's individual sense of what to do/how to do it. You can clear areas many different ways simply due to the ability to ride on enemies, which can put you in places the developers might not have intended, which can get you a good item early or get you stuck. Well now I'm just rambling.
Anyway right now I'm working on a test room, with spikes, ladders, enemies, and blocks. It'll be small, and I'll upload all the tilesets and animations so that if someone wants to, they can make a demo.

I'm in agreement with Marginwalker... no sense going to great pains to remove this bug. It's like the bomb boost in Metroid: not only did Nintendo not remove it for subsequent Metroid games, they actually kept it, intentionally, because it's part of the game's kitsch!

I feel terrible because I loooooove Legacy of the Wizard, but I haven't taken the time to post in this thread yet. =(
Bottom line, excellent idea, and amazing sprite and tile work. Way to go!

Well of course you should do what you want to as it's your baby but I gotta' say by keeping that glitch in you're essentially taking away the main aspect that keeps these characters unique. (Jump heights). In fact it might be more trouble to purposely code this glitch into a game that's being made from scratch. Looking forward to a demo, even if it's small that's a good idea. Test everything out that'll be in the game in one room and see if it all works properly before expanding. Nothing's worse than finding out something's wrong halfway through your project and then you have to go back and fix every instance of the problem.

The thing with glitches is, if you don't want to use them, you don't have to! Play the game without the glitch, if you think it makes it too easy. (:

(: -Tom Yeah I know, I just figured taking temptation out of the equation would be a better move. What he could do is have it be an option you select at the start when you begin a new game. A Glitch option? (Y/N) deal. Better yet make selecting "yes" have some sort of consequence like 10% mark-ups for the shops. ;D Besides the biggest factor separating characters has always been what items they can use.

Actually I've been building an engine for a remake for a few days now. It uses the original 16x16 size, but I dropped the old color 3 pallette and animation limitations. I also refreshed the sprites a little. Some items[ring and scroll don't work yet] And I've added new touches such as a little hop when you use the spike boots on enemies, and death animations. Notes 1. ladder based vertical room changing is buggy, when going down you have to tap left or right at base of the ladder. When goung up you have to jump andhold up. 2. Small but where you can't jump next to ladders. Controls F4 = toggle fullscreen Space = jump Tab = switch equipped item Control = Shoot ScreenshotLinkscienceisgolden.zoomshare.com/files/LOTW1616.zip

Well, I'm actually making my own remake. I started it about a year ago, and I've been working on it off and on.
I was actually linked here from a spriter I was trying to get on the team, and I gotta admit, the sprites look great. Too bad the topic is somewhat old...

A note from your General Discussion board:
Namco didn't make the game; Falcom did. Namco may have published it, but like all the other Dragonslayer games, Falcom handled all the development.
You may want to correct that.
Otherwise, sounds cool - I look forward to hearing more about it as you get farther along!
