Wow, this is a shitty thread to wander into. And Succubus, I'm just sad that thread died as fast as it did because it was positively hilarious. And susan's "irony is palpable" statement's even more true and daresay ironic given what was done to his sig and by whom. I guess I just find it funny when people that are big on free speech and freedom of press and all that shit want to obliterate opinions and comments by people that don't agree with them. I mean, G-d forbid that someone have a different opinion on something and want to express themselves (even if you don't believe in G-d). But hey, internet. What's the big deal? He makes a funny joke at my expense, I make one at his. Tit for tat. His sig was hotlinking an image in my article, which I felt the need to change. It's *not* like I have mod powers and went into his account and made the change. EDIT: Added the word "not" regarding mod powers. Since I am not a mod and what I did to the sig did not involve mod powers. |

If you felt that it was necessary for my sig to change, and I admit I shouldn't have been hotlinking it (it was originally just going to be there for a day or so I just forgot to change it) than you should have just requested me to change it or called me out or w/e
I think you changing material on the site is kind of scummy and an abuse of your powers personally, and I know that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Yeah, honestly, what was the harm in the sig image in the first place? Wasn't it just one of the WPJ screenshots? I can't imagine a 256x224 PNG image from HG101 itself would be that big of a deal to have linked on the forums, and it's not even that big, either (even on a mobile browser).

I made a slight change to my previous post, to add the word "not", since I do not have mod powers. Honest typo that was. The sig thing was less to do with bandwidth, and more to do with my irreverent nature. In the staff forum there's a changelog topic for each time staff change files on the server. This is my unedited entry: --- I tweaked the Wonder Project page, and altered one of the images which susanismyalias was hotlinking for his old sig (he annoyed me in the Steam thread, so a little humorous payback was in order). --- There wasn't any malevolent intention in it. To my mind, changing an image in the image folder, being used in someone's sig, to something non-offensive, is nothing to get worked up on - it was merely a humorous retort to susanismyalias's earlier biting remark. I utterly fail to see how or why anyone is worked up about this. Yeah I mean it's not like you called out a painful incident in his life for disagreeing with you about video games or something. Aww shucks, Ike, did my explanation to zellsf (about how you surviving a life changing event actually changed your view on the universe) sting? I will in future be more careful of your feelings when I post. |

You meant it to hurt, and not a single person who read it saw it any other way. You got way too personal and you're trying to hide behind "irreverence." You can be irreverent all you want, but you crossed a line. Maybe you meant it as a joke, because the nature of the internet keeps me from being 100% sure, but the fact is that virtually the entirety of this community finds you to be an ostentatious prick, because you come across as a prick even if you don't mean to. I'm left to conclude that you are either poor at communicating your humor, or perhaps you don't understand how to delineate "irreverence" or "irony" or whatever shtick you're trying to hide behind so that it comes through in your text, or you're genuinely a coward with poor taste. In fact, I'm willing to bet it's all 3. If you're honestly the kind of person who would use something like a traumatic experience to debase me, or even just to jokingly debase me, you are a prick. I really didn't want to get involved with this, but given the things you've said to people I'd consider to be good friends of mine, I'm afraid I can't let this slide any more. I have no idea how you could make a joke about somebody getting so close to dying like that, unless you completely lacked any empathy for anybody but yourself. But it's not just that. It feels like nearly every post you make you try to find some way to rile people up or do something to upset them. Let's take that Steam thing, for example. You don't like Steam, that could be understandable. But what you did is take the stance that Steam is terrible, you are right, and everybody else who couldn't agree with your opinion and your opinion alone is an idiot. To put it shortly?
