The only anime I can ever watch anymore is Paranoia Agent and Ghost in the Shell. It's all too lame for me. Have you watched Satoshi Kon movies such as Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, and Tokyo Godfathers? If you like Paranoia Agent you might like these.

I used to have a subscription to Shonen Jump. That very nearly killed my interest in anime and manga, because nothing drives home the "sameyness" quite like seeing seven or eight very similar manga compiled together in a monthly publication.
Naruto was one of those manga (One Piece was another, as was Shaman King). Personally I didn't like it for the simple reason that the manga was so anti-climactic. A chapter would end with Naruto declaring he would do something great, but then... nothing happens. I mean heck, the very first story arc was little more than the heroes talking big and then watching other people do all the real work!
Another anime/manga I found overrated, was Saiyuki. I wanted to read it because I love the Journey to the West legend, but this show was just... lame. The heroes are too perfect. They win basically by standing still and acting bad-ass. That, and before seeing Saiyuki, I never agreed with the notion that CGI was ruining anime. Now I do--just look how cheap the battles are. Even Sailor Moon was more dynamic than this!
However, I still love anime. Whenever I doubt my love, I pull out the old standbys: Ranma 1/2 (and for that matter, any Rumiko Takahashi anime that isn't Inu-Yasha--Inu-Yasha is easily the worst thing she's produced), 3x3 Eyes, Devil Hunter Yohko, Galaxy Express 999... Even Voltron. And for that matter, just flip the channel and look for an anime that isn't on Cartoon Network nor associated with U.S. Shonen Jump. That immediately brings back the splendour of anime that attracted me to it when I was fourteen. Heck, sometimes even just watching previews (even for shows I've never seen before) will do the job!

On the topic of anime that I do like, we've got stuff like Trigun, El-Hazard, Noir, Chobits, and most recently Suzumiya Haruhi.

I liked saiyuki personally. My taste is quite different because manga and anime is a tad bit hard to get where i live so My favorite is the one piece manga and i do kind of like shaman king.

What's the deal with Haruhi anyway? Apparently it's really popular, so I downloaded the first few eps. The first was pretty cute, but it was one of those things that could've been done in like three minutes instead of an entire freaking episode. The second just seemed to set up the premise.
So, there's just this crazy girl that only wants to talk to non-existant things like time travelers, right? So she forms a club to have fun? I'm still trying to work out exactly what the premise is. Are all of the club members ACTUALLY like aliens and stuff?
I'm thinking I really don't have the patience for anime anymore. Movies are fine, and I don't think they really do OVAs any more, but they stretch storylines out unncessarily to fill out 13/26/god knows how many episodes. I don't have time for that crap.
Either that or make it episodic like Cowboy Bebop.

Haruhi is pretty...unique, the first episode is a pretty good introduction, although subtle. The anime actually has two orders in which it should be watched: chronic and order of air-timing. You don't see the story through the main character's eyes, but through some unfortunate bystander. Also, whenever Haruhi gets bored or angry, something bad happens, so the rest of the club has to defend their world by keeping her happy.
Back on topic: I actually liked Naruto before the filler-spree, which was supposed to end a while ago. Main reason I liked it was the fast pace, cool battles and some pretty well thought-out techniques.

Ah, you don't know just how good it is! I've always liked Tintin, and apart from that and Asterix, there really aren't any other Belgo-Frenchie comics avaible in English, however streamed, save for a few partially translated series which failed to be profitable for the companies putting them out (though they seek to be extremely profitable for the ebay gorks who bought up what little there was to re-sell for $40+ an issue). And Arabic comics, I've never even seen any of those.

Mostly because I've already read the novel it's based on, and I pretty much think anyone interested in the story should just go with that. It's a damn awesome book.

Problem with Fist of the North Star is that Raiden Comics was translating it, and they went bellyup ages ago (sadly). Sure, there are fansubs, but reading manga on the 'net sucks.
