I just wish Final wont really be the final, shooter I mean. Yeah, Delta should've had that honor.

I've accomplished everything in the game and personally I think it's one of the best R-Type games out there, if not -the- best when putting aside nostalgic restraints and picky "It was too easy." material. It had alot to offer, and it definately wasn't as easy as Super R-Type.
Being someone who generally hates three-dimensional games and sequels, I think it says alot.

If Super R-Type is the game your comparing it to, no wonder you think it's the R-type ever. It pales compared to II, III and Delta however, at least gameplay wise.

The manual clearly states that they meant for Final to be, well, the Final game. Kinda like Final Fantasy? It's still quite good considering the real Irem has been dead for more than 10 years. The ridiculous amount of ships to unlock passes as a mere diversion and a shameless attempt at prolonging a fairly short game, but I was more than surprised when I found myself playing and replaying the game countless times just to read all the bestiary data, see the different stages, and unlock the cool cameo ships and many force pods. A great package overall although I would have wanted more stages. Still, shoot'em-up fans that don't particularly care for R-Type's or Irem's background history will probably not care about all the extra stuff.

<nitpick>Incidentally: Canonically speaking, Armored Police Unit Gallop is part of the R-Type series, as shown on this timeline on Irem's japanese website (scroll down to the end). This should probably be mentioned in its' section of the Irem Post-Apocalyptic Games article or the R-Type one.</nitpick> - HC

I actually use to have Gallop mentioned but then deleted it. It's not technically an R-Type game. However, when I go back and revamp it when Command comes out, I'll probably at it in as a "related" game.

Have you guys seen R-Type Final's cameo ships? VERY cool. There's Mr. Heli, the Image Fight ships, Gallop, etc...

Ugh. Getting the Image Fight series is a HUGE pain in the ass. The OF-1 is worthless, then the OF-X is wads better. Then the OF-2 (I think) is gimped, then the ship after it is great...
Yargh. Glad I'm working on the other ships now.

I didn't think it was a pain in the ass, I didn't even know they were in there (haven't looked at any faqs or anything). I just do a playthrough with each ship, and half through the game you unlock a new one. Sometimes even 2. I wonder if Air Duel's ship's are in there... But then again IREM totally ignores that title. In The Hunt's sub should be in there too. I mean, there's even a FLYING tank in the game...
Note: Strike Bomber's Mega Wave Cannon is just too cool, one hit kills every time, including most bosses! There's also a ship that if you change its default color to red, looks almost exactly like the Axelay.
