Will definitely be picking up this as soon as I can. So how long is the deal? Also, do you know how big the mask is?

The mask is about 6 inches tall, and on the stand about 12 inches total. It's about to scale with a newborn babby.

Late replying to this (as usual), but there's no indication of how long the deal's going to last on the site. Chances are it's probably just for the month of December. Unless they really want to clear out their stock. Then it may last longer.

One of the guys on T3M has been poking around the DLC and unearthed a lot of interesting stuff. Among what he's discovered is unused text, evidence of an alternate ending, alternate phase titles and what looks to be entire missing chapters. He's been posting all of his discoveries in this thread, so feel free to check it out. I'm in the process of cleaning up the unused text and putting it out there for all to read. The first bit I've isolated is this, which I call The Lost Tale of Captain Francisco Miguel Cortés: *** "I tell this story to myself, for no man will ever hear it." "I once was Francisco Miguel Cortés, Captain of the treasure galleon Nuestra Senora de la Concepcion. She lays broken on the ocean bed now, weighed down by heathen gold as heavy as our sins. I envy those that drowned, for those of us swept up on these bleak shores have paid a heavier toll." "The survivors, and I among them, were hunted tirelessly, and with grim delight by the slimy man-things that dwell here. Those that evaded capture were slowly changed; corrupted. They are gone now, but I am not alone; never alone." "I sought refuge in this temple; the only place those ghouls would dare not trespass. At its center stood a golden Sarcophagus oh! So beautiful I swear I could see the faces of angels beneath its surface. Inside that casket: a mask of bone the sight of which did chill my blood. The creatures were greatly afraid of this thing. And in their fear I saw hope. I would swear that mask called to me, offering a chance for escape, and for salvation. 'If you trust me,' it whispered, 'if you put me on...' And so I did..." "A transformation, a face and a body that were not my own. A confusion of images, a hunger - and so much blood. I was lost. Such power; impossible to describe..." "...but not enough. For something else came; all horns and fury, immeasurably vast, awful. The Lord Thule..." "I was captured, condemned and imprisoned. The golden casket I had coveted would be mine now; now and forever... I crave a death so long in coming; but this cursed mask torments me still. In time they shall learn what I have learned..." "...the flesh is a dungeon for the soul." *** Just to confirm that this is all legit, I messaged Dan Tovar on Facebook and asked him if the name Francisco Miguel Cortés meant anything to him. His response? "mebbe...hehe" I'd call that a big yes.

Hmmmmmmmmm... I wonder if this stuff would have come to prominence if the game was given a bit more of a chance to breathe. No one can say for sure, but I have a sudden priority to knee president Ishikawa in the groin.

Had the switch from BR to NB not happened (preferably it would have just stayed in-house from the start), there's a good chance a lot of this stuff would have made it in. Kung Fu Man is taking his findings and creating an article on The Cutting Room Floor, if anyone's interested. However, the bulk of the work he's doing is still in the original thread. Out of all the work he's doing, this is the part that interests me the most: "The original intended level 6 however IS still in here too...and all the dialogue is voiced. The Captain has a very hispanic sounding voice, but it's pretty obvious Jim Cummings too. The music is in here also and has a very yo-ho-ho feel to it. Once I can grasp the model format we'll see if I can't build something back in."

If anyone's interested, West Mansion's come back!... sort of. I've started a Facebook page for WM, and I'll be posting links to any new or interesting Splatterhouse things that surface as time goes on. Feel free to "like" it if you're on Facebook. www.facebook.com/westmansion

Long time, and all that. Just wanted to let anyone here that wasn't aware know that West Mansion has officially reopened as of Halloween, and I've started updating the site regularly again. Playing a decade's worth of catch-up certainly gives me a lot to work with. splatterhouse.kontek.net

For one thing, countries outside of Japan used dedicated cabinets. And that's exactly what it came in. In Japan, they use candy cabinets for arcades. I believe in Japan, it came in Consolette cabinets.

Yeah, it has to be true. Not only did I play the arcade game myself at Universal Studios Florida in 1991, over the years I've talked to many people who recall playing the arcade game in various places around the U.S. - I know it was a conversion kit, so it never had a dedicated cab, but that would have just made it easier for arcade owners to swap it in and out.
I'm going to have to look those Consolette cabs up, I don't think I've ever seen one.

An example of a Consolette cabinet, as seen on the back of this flyer for Burning Force, another Namco Arcade game. flyers.arcade-museum.com/flyers_video/namco/21010602.jpgWhich version of the original Splatterhouse do you think is the best? Arcade or PC Engine? I'd say Arcade. I think it's a case of an Arcade game where I'd say the original version is the best overall.

Ah, okay (also, I do love Burning Force).
As far as which version is the best, I have to go with the arcade version too. The PC Engine version is almost like an easier version of the arcade original, so it's good to practice on before tackling the arcade.
