Wow, that's by far the longest contributor list on any article ever I need to get some emulators running and search for disk images. I want to try out Briganty, Daiva, Rusty, Night Slave and Die Bahnwelt ...

Nice to see it back up and improved! If I could make a few suggestions - The paragraphs about adult content seems a little awkward - they switch from accusatory - "uptight..." "personal issues..." to apologetic - "bedroom coding geeks..." in a single sentence. I would also say emphasising that these games have spawned successful and popular hentai-free console versions doesn't really do a good job of supporting the idea that there are games out there where the erotic scenes are genuinely integral to the quality of the experience. I'm not questioning the validity of these games as an example of what you're saying, but unless you already know about them (and therefore have already formed your own opinion on eroge anyway), they are not a useful reference point for the general gamer. I'm stumped for a better alternative so I'm not really one to talk, but perhaps someone else can come up with something I feel that it's worth making clear that having a lot of eroge, and having a library that consists only of eroge, isn't the same thing (just because when I see PC98 et al mentioned outside of specialist places it's usually" 200 HENTAI GAMES! MEGAUPLOAD!" and nobody even asks about the rest). On that note, one of the screenshots on the second page appears to show a woman about to be raped - if this sort of thing is going to be A-OK for content these days could we at least have a NSFW warning? I was browsing the article with my two year old son in the room and that's not something I would want him to see. You show two screenshots for fan translated games, but make no mention of either the translations themselves or how people can use AGTH in conjunction with ANEX to machine-translate any PC98 into English. Last thing - as more people are going to find it a lot easier and quicker to try Genocide 2 on the SNES rather than the X68k (just as one example) it's worth taking a paragraph to say that while a lot of these games have ports on more familiar hardware they can be vastly inferior or even completely different to the original.

Well, I did a hasty edit on that naked picture (the thumbnail anyway), so there's that!

Speaking of the game with that naked picture, it's called Knights of Xentar in North America -- not Knights of Xantor. Also, Exile and Lightning Bacchus MSX games are for MSX2 specifically. Just saying.

Well, I did a hasty edit on that naked picture (the thumbnail anyway), so there's that! Hoho! Apologies Kurt and Kimimi, I recalled a previous thread on the Dragon Knight series where Kurt mentioned that changing hosting services allowed for more liberal imagery use. I hadn't considered minors viewing it. And damn, my mistake for spelling it wrong. As for modifying the text, I'm a bit burned out with how long it's taken to get this up to scratch. I'll try to make amendments later, otherwise if any paragraphs are posted here, I'll copy and paste them when/if I have a chance. The awkward parts are due to me trying to meld my old article with Kobushi's newer comments.

I'm in need of a bit of Emulator help. When trying to start up Night Slave (Anex and Neko Project II), it tells me to set the system to 2.5MHz instead of 5. I've meddled with the settings a bit, but nothing I tried worked. Do you know how to solve that problem?

That's odd, I've just tried my Night Slave HDI in Anex and it simply booted up without any promting at all.

derboo,
The GDC clock is a BIOS setting, not an emulator setting. That's weird, that error shouldn't happen in Anex. I have two suggestions:
Anex: Reset your dip switches: click the Reset button on the DIP SW tab in the Anex config window. If you don't want to reset everything, just make sure that SW2-8 is in the up position.
Neko: Launch Neko, and then click Emulate->Reset while holding down the End key on your keyboard. This will bring up the BIOS menu. From the menu, select Dip Switch 2 Settings (ディップスイッチ2の設定) and press Enter. Change the GDC clock option (GDCクロック) from 5 MHz to 2.5 MHz. Select End (終了) twice to save the BIOS changes and restart.

Still no luck with Anex. I was able to run it in Neko with your instructions, though, but it runs really slow ...

That's weird. I think you should try a fresh install of Anex.
Neko isn't ideal for newer games like Night Slave, because Neko emulates old CPUs. But Night Slave will work fine in Neko, too. In the Emulate->Configure window, you can set the CPU to 2.4576 MHz and enter a maximum multiplier of 32. Performance is quite nice with these settings.

Love it to bits! Many thanks to both Sketz and Kobushi for creating such a wonderful article on these great machines.

You ditched the hi-res photos of the X1 Twin I got sourced from NFG? He was happy for me to use them, and it looks much swankier than the usual grainy X1 model photos. Also, bit disappointed you ditched the scans of Technopolis showing the Comiket coverage - that stuff is pretty scarce on the internet.
