Ah, figured it out. Weapon weight affects your cooldown time. And of course, the second part of the demo dumps you with the absolute heaviest weapons in the game.
The way Charge works in the first part, at level 1 with just a pistol and assault rifle...wow. You've got an instant shield recharge at your beck and call. You practically don't even need weapons, just need to use the heavy melee attack.

The funny thing I noticed that those starting weapons are exactly the best (barring the special "secret" sniper/shotgun) of ME2 Matlock, Eviscerator and Tempest... but you start with an extra weapon category that was an alternative to pick a secret weapon midgame. Also the charge recharging shield is a characteristic of the upgraded charge on ME2.
That means that this game avoids the megaman syndrome, very nice.

I know, but with the drastically reduced recharge time (it literally recharges over the course of my Heavy Melee animation in the demo), it's far more useful than it was in ME2.
All right, you know that part at the end of the first secton where all those super husks are swarming your position after you pick up the assault rifle? I was able to just continuously Crash Intrude them with impunity. In ME2, the recharge was often enough to make me vulnerable, but here I could just keep chaining them. At that was with a level 1 Charge.

Yes, is cool.
I don't remember which weapon I was using but I could chain after a charge the move that makes you sacrifice your barrier for a powerful smack, that is a very nice combo because you can knock your enemies and smack them with your barrier fully recharged after the charge. Of course you will be helpless after doing it and look likes that HP don't regenerates like past games.

I'll be honest, at first I was massively disappointed when I saw how long it took Charge to, well, recharge. But now that I know how weight works, I'm really looking forward to dashing around the battlefield like some sort of flightless Tekkaman. Much cooler than hiding behind walls.

Of the male specimens on offer, Garrus was probably the most palatable romance option for female Shepard. I went for Liara.

I can relate to Garrus's personality. He's like a Bioware version of the Punisher. He just looks too damn weird to kiss.

To be honest, Tali and Garrus are the only two party members I actually like.

What's wrong with Wrex? Or Zaeed, for that matter.

Wrex honestly doesn't get enough screentime for him to matter to me. And Zaeed seems to just be an experimental in seeing how horrible a person can be and still be forgiven on account of having amusing voice acting. Him, Jack and Aria all struck me as BioWare trying way too hard to be edgy.

I've learned not to choose any romance in bioware games. I honestly think ME is best played choosing only renegade options (ever) and not engaging in a romance. The game makes much more sense overall that way.

I prefer to be Paragon myself, but hate how ME1 doesn't really give you the option to turn down romance. I preferred how 2 let you just friend zone everyone instead.

That's gotta be a PC problem, on Xbox Mass Effect has never controlled this smooth. That's exactly it. It felt so clunky because the controls were tailored to consoles. The new running animation is hysterical. This is all that's missing. And I wish Legion were romancable - no one else does it for me.
