Hard to blame folks when the Imagine games sell much more. Such a sad state of affairs but maybe players will be graduate to normal games. And yeah, the games had better be region-free. About 1/4 of my DS library consist of JP games. It would be really silly if Nintendo finally broke the rule of region-free handheld games.
Anyway, for 2D purposes, folks had better take advantage of the 2nd screen well. Otherwise, the PSP still has better resolution. Did Nintendo ever reveal the 3DS's specs? I'm curious to see how good the hardware is, like if it's even better than PSP.
I'll get the system eventually but since none of the games seem indispensable for me yet, I'll probably wait for the upgrade in a couple of years.

I'll only be getting one if a few games come out for it that really sound good, probably in established series that I already enjoy. The 3D will be permanently off for me as I get migraines (thanks, family history) and they can be triggered by 3D effects like this. So to me, it's just yet another damn Nintendo gimmick I won't enjoy much if at all and will be using it as yet another upgraded DS.
Honestly, that's a turn off for me, because it's obvious they're banking a lot on this gen and next on gimmicks and this is one a lot of people are going to have to skip out on for medical reasons, which is unfair to us. 3D technology isn't the best yet and needs to go farther before people like me can enjoy it without needing to get a painkiller shot at the emergency room for daring to use it as it was intended.

Ouch. Reminds me my friend can't play certain FPS that tend to shake realistically while a character is walking because it gives him motion sickness.

I'm curious to see how good the hardware is, like if it's even better than PSP. No late-gen PSP game can do what this early-gen 3DS is doing: The system is definitely more powerful than the PSP, but the shaders it employs helps out a lot to make the games look almost of PS360 quality. So far only the two Resident Evil games look near that quality, the rest look like PS2/GC games. But if this is first gen stuff, then the future games will look even better. Also bear in mind that if a game doesn't use the 3D effect, it can theoretically look even better than those Resident Evil games since it frees up the CPU from rendering the screen twice. Assuming the developers choose to do that of course. Some other games do look worse than PSP games (like Ridge Racer), but that's probably due to the early stages of development. That or Namco sucks.

I thought what I saw of SSF4 on the 3DS looked just as good as on the home consoles, also so maybe it's a Capcom thing.

Doesn't the 3DS tech essentially give the system GC-tier power? Or was that just rumored?
Atma: you might have better luck with the 3DS' 3D. Since it's really different from a lot of the other 3D out there, especially since you don't need those glasses (which is my main issue with 3D from a physical standpoint; things give me headaches). Don't really know for sure, but don't dismiss it outright because of bad experiences from older 3D tech.

I got to play the 3DS twice for a considerable amount of time at Nintendo of Germany and at an appointment at GamesCom, so I guess I can shed some additional light on how well the 3D effect really works (or at least has worked during development. Who knows how much there is still going to be improved?). First off, I gotta say I NEVER could see anything in those old 3D pics of the 90s where you would have to focus the center, move the pic to your nose, move it back and yadda yadda yadda. Never worked for me. But 3D on the 3DS works perfectly for me, though some games seem to work better than others. The MGS video was especially impressive, considering it was not just a prerecorded CGI as you could move around the camera most of the time in real-time and it all looked well like GameCube quality. First-party demos and vids also left me quite impressed, while for example a short demo of some Ubisoft adventure (yeah, Ubisoft of all companies) only had one nice instance where you would your view on a theater curtain to make visible some words written on the folds, with the rest being not that different from a DS game. Most disappointing was the foto camera supposed to take 3D pictures. All I got to see most of the time were just two pictures awkwardly put together to a single picture. Maybe it's my brain's fault, I don't know, but I was obviously disappointed. All in all though the 3DS is very promising, but only in the right hands it seems. If developers opt for the the easy road, the 3D effect might be neglectable but then we'll still at least have an extremely powerful standard handheld system.

Haw, I was just reading impressions from the yesterday's Nintendo World 2011 and that's the exact line they used. Aparently that MT Framework thing Capcom is using is working wonders, because not only are Resident Evil and SF4 the best looking 3DS games, but they also feature the best 3D effects.

BlazBlue: CS II will also be on the system for those hoping for 2D games on the console: And here's a good trailer for DoA Dimensions for anyone who cares:

The games I'm really waiting for are Resident Evil Revelations, Resident Evil Mercenaries, and Saints Row Drive-By.

What do we know about 3DSware, or the built in Virtual Consolesque thingie? I've heard you will be able to download old b/w Game Boy games, which is cool and all, but... who wants them to include Game Boy Advance games too? I know I do! I hope Nintendo does the right thing.
Anyway, I'm optimistic so far and will probably get the 3DS before the end of 2011. I'm just gonna wait for the games to start coming... I may be interested in Resident Evil, but other than that I don't care at this point. Dead or Alive looks fantastic, but I don't really wanna play a game of that caliber on a handheld. Same thing with Kid Icarus. It's graphically impressive, but I would prefer to play it on a larger screen. Though I honestly don't know if the game looks that fun to begin with.. time will tell.
Like everyone else, I'm expecting Castlevania too. I just hope Konami is making it 2D.

GB and GBC first, obviously GBA will come later. I expect Game Gear and Neogeo Pocket making an appearance too.
Castlevania is in development, but don't get your hopes up about being a sprite based game. I expect it to be a polygonal "2.5D" game with 3D effects.

In an ideal world, the entire Virtual Console library of games would be made available on the 3DS download service at launch, not just handheld titles. Surely the 3DS is capable of running SNES/Genesis/Neogeo games and such. Now, having N64 games on it would interfer with the Ocarina of Time remake, but I guess Nintendo could just remove that particular game... Or remove the entire N64 library if that's what they want. I don't mind. N64 is not that interesting to me, give or take a game or two...
