Answer: ALWAYS BET ON THE DUKE
Will anyone still care? You will if you've got a pair!
Can't wait.

I will either love the game to death or hate everything about it. The humour may no longer appeal to as it did so long ago, and it remains to be seen whether DNF hews close to Duke 3D's level and gameplay design, or if it will be another casualty of the modern shooter craze.

Pretty impressive trailer. I kinda want to buy that conroller that Duke's using there at the end of it.

The thing I'm afraid most is the risk of incoherence and inconsistency. Project Management at 3D Realms was very poor and Gearbox salvaged and put together what they developed during the last years. On the bright side, there seems to be a lot of content for the single player; I hope Gearbox's declarations that it's "at least three times longer than Modern Warfare 2's" are not just a publicity stunt. Also, the trailer shows some nice self-irony.

I think Gearbox have done more than just culled together the work that 3D Realms had done. Going by the (awesome) trailer, they're completely playing on the fact that Duke Nukem has been gone for so long. It's part of the storyline. Though, I don't know whether that was 3D Realms doing or Gearbox. The fact of the matter is that the game, by all accounts, looks fantastic. And Duke Nukem is lucky. It's a long time in the making, but everyone (Press, the public etc) seems to have their expectations in check. Nobody is hyping the hell out of it, which is great. My expectations follow this train of thought too. I'm expecting something great, but I'm not expecting the world. And that's totally enough for me. Now, all they need to do is bring back the classic 3D Realms shooter Terminal Velocity, and I'll die a happy man

It probably wont be the best frigging game ever, but it looks like its gonna be a real showstopper. Still betting on Duke.

The only reaction I have nowadays when reading about Duke Nukem is apathy.I really don't care if it's finally going to be released.

I'm not really impressed by the cover image that was released...he just looks kind of like a baked fratboy.

Depending on the design philosophy applied, it's either gonna be the most fun FPS since, well, since Duke Nukem 3D, or just a decent new FPS with a cool setting. Either way, I'll be getting it.
I just hope the European version (or even the game in general vs the trailer) gets rid of that mosaic effect.

To be honest, this was an opinion that was first brought up by Snarboo, but there's something he said about this game that I pretty much agree with in every way.
The thing is, games just take themselves way too seriously these days. I mean, between the whole "WIFE" thing in Gears and No Russian, it just seems like developers just don't try to have any fun making games anymore. Hopefully if this ends up selling well (probably will), we'll end up getting a new era of cheese and one-liners.
On the subject of the trailer... I'm not really sure what to think yet. The gameplay looks a bit... eh, generic so far. Maybe that'd change once we get some actual gameplay footage. It's good to see they're bringing back some of the weapons from DN3D, because it'd really suck if they stuck with the usual modern shooter weapon set of pistol/machine gun/shotgun/grenades.

I think Gearbox have done more than just culled together the work that 3D Realms had done. Gearbox actually took a hands off approach with Duke Nukem Forever. They hired the guys at Triptych (formed by former members of 3D Realms who continued to work on the game without pay out of their own homes) and let Allen Blum and his guys have all of the resources they needed (along with some good old fashioned quality management) to bring the baby home. FWIW, the PAX demo was freakin' awesome, though the vehicle-based bit was a little iffy. As soon as you were back on your feet again, it was back on the fast train to awesometown. Population: Duke. My only problem is that I'm going to have to figure out how to make my own special box to hold the PS3/360/PC versions, because I intend to buy and play through all three. edit - weaponset isn't modern shooter generic style. You have the ripper, the shotgun, the shrink ray, the pipe bombs, etc. There's a badass railgun that you can use to dismember enemies piece by piece from a distance. You can pick your shit out of the toilet and throw it around the bathroom. Between this and Bulletstorm, I have high hopes of classic run and gun style first person shooters making a comeback in a big way, because they've totally been on life support with only smaller euro and russian devs being willing to make them for the last few years. Still bummed about the commercial failure of Sin Episodes Emergence.

Does anyone find Duke's voice rather monotone? It was okay for 90's sound-bytes but, come on now, it's been 20 years.

we'll end up getting a new era of cheese and one-liners. . If you need a fix, check out Borderlands and the new Splatterhouse. Both are filled with jokes and one liners.

If you need a fix, check out Borderlands and the new Splatterhouse. Both are filled with jokes and one liners. I loved Mad Moxxi, Skeeter, General Knoxx, and the Claptraps. It's just a shame that Mad Moxxi's Underdome was terrible and that the Claptraps were kind of run right into the ground with New Robot Revolution. Other than that, totally agreed about the one liners throughout the series. Some really fantastic humor.

the whole " WIFE" thing in Gears The developers found this so profound that the special edition for Gears 2 comes with a replica of that glossy photo he shows everyone when asking if they know where his wife is. I've laughed out loud every time I watched the scenes, and I've co-op'd Gears several times. Who needs intentional cheese when we've got more unintentional then we could possibly ask for? ;p
