Not to drag things down, Bean, but Darksiders is much closer to Devil May Cry than God of War. You've got a huge sword instead of a blade on a chain, not to mention a gun. And the one chain you get is far closer to the Hookshot. Idk. The combos felt a lot more like GoW-style combos to me than DMV--I mean DMC. I wouldn't say that's a bad thing for the game, especially since Darksiders did them a lot better on the whole.

Yeah, Darksider's combat pacing felt much more like God of War.

I have never laughed at my own typos before. (that might be a lie)

I guess in that regard, you could say it's GoW's pacing with DMC's weapons.
I really wish there could've been more DMC clones...

Who needs DMC when we have Bayonetta?

In no particular order: Valkyria ChroniclesReason to buy a PS3. Great story with lots of cool character profiles that develop as you play, and some of the best strategy mechanics I've seen. A cool combination of real-time and turn based. Even if you don't like strategy games, this could convert you. Sublime watercolor artwork too. Aquanauts Holiday (Asian version which is in English)Enjoy swimming in the ocean, talking to fish and photographing the ruins of forgotten civilisations. Utterly beautiful. Afrika (US version which is in English)Go on a Safari and make money shooting animals! (with a camera) Ryu ga Gotoku KENZANBe Miaymoto Musashi in ancient Japan. Classic JRPG design mixed with great visuals, mission structure and cool story. Yakuza 3Be a Japanese mafia guy. As above, a great JRPG style game with real time combat.
Way of the Samurai 3Totally non-linear samurai simulator. Do whatever the **** you like. Join a cause. Help a town. Slaughter bandits. Be a bandit. Become a loyal servant to a feudal lord. Or just scavenge from dead bodies with your newly acquired wife. Red Seeds ProfileIt defies words. 2010 GAME OF THE YEAR. Anyone who says otherwise is lying. Boku no Natsuyasumi 3You're a kid on your summer holidays. Catch insects. Go swimming. Look for bottle caps. Just have fun. Forbidden SirenBest survival horror on the system? I think so! You can psychically mindjack the shobito zombie enemies as they hunt you down. Great visuals. Creepy story. An essential purchase. Get the Euro release on BD. Demon's SoulsOne of the hardest games you'll find. But with a great online component, and some truly ingenious level design which is well structured. Difficult but awesome romp through a medieval hell. Ignore poorly made crap like Dante's Inferno - if you're only going to play one game where a guy holds a European sword, it has to be this one. All other games involving European swords are redundant after this. (samurai swords are another matter) Armored Core For AnswerBuild a mech and fight other mechs, including giant Shadow of the Colossus sized brutes. Alone in the DarkSurprisingly good - combine items to make new weapons, drive cars and battle evil in New York.

In no particular order: Valkyria ChroniclesEven if you don't like strategy games, this could convert you. Spot on. I generally dislike S/TRPGs, as I find that their battle mechanics and scenario design are trite, outdated, and a dog's breakfast in general. But Valkyria's battle system and scenario design are influenced by and on par with the best PC and tabletop war and strategy games.

Red Seeds ProfileIt defies words. 2010 GAME OF THE YEAR. Anyone who says otherwise is lying. If Deadly Premonition ("Red Seeds Profile") was the only game that came out last year it would still have been the best year for gaming this decade.

I'm at a bit of a loss that someone could say this: Red Seeds ProfileIt defies words. 2010 GAME OF THE YEAR. Anyone who says otherwise is lying. and then also say this: Alone in the DarkSurprisingly good - combine items to make new weapons, drive cars and battle evil in New York. Alone in the Dark: Inferno is better than the 360 version, but that's a relative term. It's like saying that pubic lice are better than anal warts. You still have an STD. You're absolutely right about Deadly Premonition, though. If The Last Guardian weren't coming out this year, I'd call it the best game of 2011, too.

Red Seeds Profile It defies words. 2010 GAME OF THE YEAR. Anyone who says otherwise is lying. Well, I know everyone has their own taste in games and that's all cool, but for someone to recommend Red Seeds Profile/Deadly Premonition so dogmatically makes my head spin. But really, that's the only tactic one can resort to when a game is so evidently terrible. It defies words indeed, because there are none in the English language that can properly describe its awfulness. If you like things that are unconventional and unique on principle then yeah, it could be one of your favorite games period. There is nothing else like it. But holy shit, something unconventional and unique doesn't need to be life-threateningly boring. The dialog and some of the cutscenes are "lol" great (and not because they're bad, but genuinely funny and interesting), however these few glimpses of actual quality are too few and far between all the muck you'll have to slog your way through-- endless driving, boring missions, dead simple puzzles. You know, it's great that the developer really went all out to put you in the shoes of the protagonist-- and it excels in this-- but what you have to do to fill his shoes isn't all that interesting most of the time. I guess it all comes down to what you're willing to look past, and how strongly the good qualities shine for you. I'll offer a powerful anti-recommendation for Deadly Premonition, though. Not for any good reason, just because I hate the game. I can't sit by and let someone get away with saying it's a great game and I'm a liar for thinking otherwise (although I know sketcz said it jokingly... right?!). So take all that praise with a grain of salt... no, take it as a deadly premonition. The hipsters who praise the game are actually part of an underground cult, I'll have you know. Their goal is to cover the earth in terrible games by implementing subtle brainwashing strategies to assert their horrible taste in games on the weaker people. Do you have the mental fortitude to resist? It's up to you, Wildcat, to stop them in their tracks by not playing Deadly Premonition. Do not fall into the trap like I did. I'm sure you're even more interested in the game now. You see, this is how they get you. They praise a game so highly so as to create a great divergence in opinions. Then, you just gotta see what all the fuss is about. Mission accomplished.

I agree, it does take a certain degree of culture to appreciate a game like Deadly Premonition.

This culture involves taking long boring car trips and talking to your invisible friend about 80s movies.
