I DON'T SEE DINOSAUR: RESURRECTION ON THAT LIST!! (:
(Seriously, though, if you like first-person dungeon crawlers and haven't played it, PLAY DINOSAUR R. It's freaking amazing. Just make sure you fully understand the mechanics, as part of its excellence in game design lies in the "exposure" system, where your chances of getting into a random battle are significantly increased or decreased based on how many walls are surrounding you at any given moment.)
((Also, you are right to give this warning, and we have no intention of advertising the game as anything other than what it is. It's hardcore, and we know it -- and we hope gamers with an appreciation for that, like Feynman here, will help make it a success!))

Elminage isn't on that list either. I think spell damage in this game is fine, esp. early in the game, but it's just that bosses get more and more resistant to magic as you go along. But that's always been a Wiz staple (where end bosses are like 90% of the time immune to magic). One good thing with the game is that restarting is very fast.

End bosses in this game seem QUITE susceptible to magic, actually... as long as you're casting the right spells. -Tom

That's a trend carrying over from Tale of the Forsaken Land. It's probably my favorite console dungeon crawler of all time, if not my favorite period. But I agree, what I've heard of the PSN game's OST is beautiful. You know, I didn't even know they released a Wizardry game for the PS2. I certainly have never seen a copy of this ever before.

It didn't exactly get the world's largest print run, so it's fairly uncommon. It's a fantastic game, though.

Heh, Dinosaur and Elminage aren't on the list because... I haven't played them yet That was just my personal list. From what I've heard, I'm sure they're both better than Dark Spire, at least. Elminage is by Star Fish, who did the Wizardry Empire series (which I haven't really played, either). As for the spells in Labyrinth of Lost Souls, one thing I encountered was that enemy weaknesses didn't seem to make much difference. Casting a Lv.2 Flame Field would do more damage than a Lv.3 Ice Burst, even against enemies weak to ice. Of course, after a few more levels you'll just be spamming NAL Burst, but still...

Yeah, NAL Burst was what I was thinking of. There's not a boss in the game who can't be taken down with that one. (:
