I think it's a bit different for handhelds, where it is a thing you're going to be able to carry around with you, where it could potentially be used in public, so I could see people having a certain level of hang-up about owning, say, a pink DS, or one that's shaped like teddy bear's severed head. I agree to a certain extent. But as you mentioned, the colours have been well recieved. The two colours available aim to please a large majority of owners... The Gameboy originally came in Grey... pretty neutral and generic, but inoffensive at the same time. Game Gear and Atari Lynx... Black (or Grey-Black)... the DS... pretty much grey to begin with... then Black and White for the DS Lite... I could understand if the system only came in Pink and Toffee... but meh...

I usually don't care about what color my handheld comes in, but man, the DSi XL is awful. First you could only choose between brown and wine, none of which I wanted. Then Nintendo released it in three additional colors, namely the ugliest green, yellow and blue I have ever seen on any gaming device ever. What ever happened to black and white? Most people prefer those two, even if it's "boring".
The DSlite came in nice colors though.

Really? Is 'black' such a horrible shade for a system? It's pretty standard. And anyways, pretty much every system has had a black version. Really, colour? Blue and black... I see no issue at ALL in the colour scheme. Did I see a bandwagon driving past??? It's all just a matter of taste. Personally, I think black, and white for that matter, are both incredibly boring color choices. Plus, I already own too many electronic devices in black. I just want something different. Blue isn't a bad color, but the shade of blue for the 3DS is extremely diluted. I kind of like the shade of blue used on the DSi XL (believe they call it midnight blue), but leave it to Nintendo to select a boring shade of blue instead. You may ask why color matters so much. Well, it doesn't matter (of course), but that being said, Nintendo is notorious for showing off a ton of cool looking colors pre-release only to launch with the most boring colors of the bunch, probably so they can cash in on wasteful spenders who re-purchase the system just to get a prettier color. It's only one of many things about Nintendo that frustrates me to no end. If I were still a hardcore gamer that had to buy and play everything that looked even remotely cool, I'd buy a 3DS regardless of the color. But the truth is, I typically spend less than two hours a week gaming nowadays, and 3DS would get less playtime than that thanks to the poor selection of launch-window games. In order for me to justify purchasing a $250 product that will probably not get a lot of use over the next several months, I would need to be 100% satisfied with the product, and even little things like color can be a factor in that.

Theeennn.... don't buy it...
Wait until there's a better selection of games and/or possibly a "lite" version with longer battery power.
I'm not going to buy one anytime soon. I'm no beta tester.

Theeennn.... don't buy it... Yeah uh..., way ahead of you there. I wasn't planning on it. I just felt like expressing my lack of excitement. I guess it's just a bit of a bummer to me, since it really caught my interest when it was first shown off (not even because of the 3D), but now that it's out, the desire to buy one is pretty much gone.

To be honest, the color variations of the DS Lite and the XL were the best (the DSi's color variations? Ugh) And I agree with Rey: wait 'till they release a newer, improved version and/or games that really interest you. I'll just stick with my PSP and DS for now, thank you.

Wait until the games you want are released and the desire will be back. Maybe, but I sort of expect things to go like this: "Hey Resident Evil is out, I'll buy a 3DS... as soon as they release that red one in two months." - Two months later - "Great, the red 3DS is out... but I'd better wait to see if those internet rumors about a price drop are true." - A few months later - "Great, the price dropped... but I'd better make sure that they don't announce a hardware revision at E3." - E3 arrives - "Oh look, a better 3DS that addresses all of the issues with the previous model! I'd better hold off any buy that one." ... and then the cycle begins again because I have to wait for the color I want on the new revision. And by the time that's out, they're ready for the third hardware revision. Yeah I know, I'm probably just full of shit.

Okay, I really need to know, what the hell does everyone find so offensive about the blue? For me? it's better than then the DSi launch color I gave the derogatory name of "Bathroom Tile Blue" but it's still not "my" color for something I'm gonna own. Plus, I seem to keep stuff of darker colors cleaner than anything light. Also, regarding the battery life, I'm planning on getting one of these Nyko PowerPaks ASAP: ca.kotaku.com/5790132/charge-base-gives-3ds-the-extra-juice-it-needs/Well, it's not 'Red', for one. And we all know red makes things run faster Exactly three times faster? (I'm such a dork.) No lie, I'd just get that if it'll be available before summer.
