It seems to vary a bit from store to store. At location I went to, it was already marked at $170, but I've heard other people have had to price match or be assertive about getting the marked down price. Your best bet is to call ahead of time and ask the manager if they're selling the 3DS at $170. If they won't budge on $250 by themselves, find a store that will, then have them price match it (or just shop at the other store). DS games definitely don't look as good. You might want to hang on to your old DS, at least for a while, as how annoying the visual downgrade on DS games is will vary from person to person. EDIT: Also, the ambassador deal ends one minute before midnight EST on the 11th. Make sure you take your time zone into consideration so that you can buy the unit, update the firmware, and connect to the eShop while the offer is still valid! Thanks, man. I wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't told me, so thanks! There are some games I'd like to play coming out; I'm not expecting a coup like with the DS, but it should be worth the purchase. Too bad about MML3 though. BTW, Orbus: from the looks of things you'll probably want to look into the XL...if you play a good amount of DS games in and around the house while watching tv or whatever, it's definitely the way to go. It's kind of a bitch for travel though, because it's freaking huge compared to even the DSi.

It looks like North America is getting the flare red 3DS on September 9th. With that, coupled with the price being reduced by $80, you'd think that would be an easy choice for me. But then I listed out all of the current or soon-to-be-released 3DS games that I want: Street Figher 4, Ocarina of Time, Devil Survivor Overclocked, and Star Fox 64. Then I realized that I already own all four of those games, and when MGS3 comes out, I'll have a fifth rehash to add to my collection. This certainly isn't generating a ton of enthusiasm for me. Perhaps I should wait around for Resident Evil: Revelations and Mega Man Leg....oh yeah, that's right. Are there any excellent currently-released or coming-soon 3DS games that I'm forgetting about? It just seems like there should be more for me to get excited over. I haven't played it, but if you like strategy games then Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars should be worth a look. It was designed by Julian Gollop, who created the X-COM series on PC. Along with that hopefully the Paper Mario game is good. I loved the first two games, but thought Super Paper Mario on the Wii sucked. This new one looks to have more in common with the first two though, so hopefully it's as fun as them.

Other than the SF64 remake, in the fall and holiday we have: Super Mario 3D Land Mario Kart 7 Kid Icarus: Uprising Tales of the Abyss (with cut down loading times compared to the PS2 ver.) 3DS exclusive version of Sonic Generations Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights (the Konami game some accused of ripping off Professor Layton but it's quite different) New Shinobi Bit.Trip Saga (collection of all 6 of the WiiWare games in 3D) (addition: noticed that's been out since 8/2 but it's staying here) Cave Story 3D Among some others. eShop has Mutant Mudds coming too, which looks pretty cool.

Dunno if anyone's mentioned it yet, but you can make original DS games display in their proper resolution by holding Start and Select during start up. (I think that's the command, anyway.)

Sweet, thanks Ike!
I'm glad I bought at Fry's, btw. They're selling it at 169, but giving you a 30 dollar gift card also....not sure if there are any hold-outs on the board that would benefit from it (I know there's at least one other person that shops there, can't remember who).

Didn't even realize that was coming out this year. I guess it's something, at least.

Yes, but the window in which the game plays is tiny. I guess it's a matter of which one bothers you less, I'd personally rather just get used to the blur.

If you're a PowerUp Rewards member, you can trade in your DSLite or DSi for a 3DS for only $99 this weekend.

I'm only looking forward to RE: Revelations and maybe Mario 3D Land. (Watch as it pays zero tribute to the SML games despite the name)
Buuuuut my DS lite is kinda busted up. We'll see. I think I'd rather send it in for repairs 'cuz I can't fucking stand that D pad placement. Can any fan of 2D stuff like Contra vouch for how good it is on the 3DS?

If you trade a DSi, you get it for $109. If you trade a DS Lite you get it for $119. I went ahead and traded my extra DS lite in for an aqua blue 3DS. It's shiny as FUCK

So, after a few days of 3DS ownership, I am overall quite pleased with the hardware. The unit has decent heft, the buttons all feel more stable than the DSi's, and so does the d-pad, which despite being in a stupid location (the slide pad should be on the bottom, dammit) is much more responsive than the crappy pad used on the DSi, and the smooth finish of the plastic is so much better than the awful feel of the DSi's matte finish it isn't even funny. Also, analog volume control! Yay!
However, I do have three complaints:
1. Why is the power button located where the start and select buttons should be? That's dumb.
2. Why are the start and select buttons not slightly raised (or have a unique texture or something) to provide feedback so that you can find them easily without having to check and make sure you aren't accidentally pressing the wrong button by mistake?
3. What dumbass thought that slightly off center to the left on the back of the unit was a good place to position the stylus? And to make it so difficult to remove on top of that? There's no way to quickly and easily draw the stylus out, use it, then replace it.

The stylus thing only bothers me because of another problem that bothers me much more: The OS constantly forces you to use the touchscreen for menus that really don't need it.
