I want a 3DS if only for Etrian 4 (which was on Nintendo's "support list" from E3!)
That franchise is like my favorite thing to come out of last gen.
Oh and Legends 3.

It looks like North America is getting the flare red 3DS on September 9th. With that, coupled with the price being reduced by $80, you'd think that would be an easy choice for me. But then I listed out all of the current or soon-to-be-released 3DS games that I want: Street Figher 4, Ocarina of Time, Devil Survivor Overclocked, and Star Fox 64. Then I realized that I already own all four of those games, and when MGS3 comes out, I'll have a fifth rehash to add to my collection. This certainly isn't generating a ton of enthusiasm for me. Perhaps I should wait around for Resident Evil: Revelations and Mega Man Leg....oh yeah, that's right. Are there any excellent currently-released or coming-soon 3DS games that I'm forgetting about? It just seems like there should be more for me to get excited over.

It's quite depressing. If you don't have a DSi, though, there are a few great games on its library worth getting on the 3DS.

I bought a 3DS today. Got the $170 price at Wal-Mart and got the ambassador perk, so it was a pretty good deal. I mean, there isn't a whole lot out there for the 3DS I care about much right now (though I'm interested in the Mario game arriving in... November I think?), but I was going to buy one sooner or later anyway, so I may as well buy it during the window of time that allows me to both possess and consume my cake simultaneously.
It means I'll be pushing my purchase of Deus Ex: Human Revolution back a week or two, but oh well.

I suppose I might do the same thing. Although, there really aren't any 3DS games I want, or even on the horizon. Rune Factory 4 has my attention, but it's not a system seller for me.
Other than that... Paper Mario and Mario Land 3D?

That and get a new screen protector; the one I bought had a scratch in it to begin with, right in the middle of the screen. Do you get any kind of message telling you that you've gotten the ambassador perk? I performed a system update and visited the eshop...

If you click on the "News" button when in the eShop, there should be several messages, including "Welcome," "Nintendo Video Available," etc. One of the news messages should be titled "Ambassador" and begin with the line "You are a Nintendo 3DS Ambassador!" or something very similar, followed by bunch of irrelevant corporate babble.

So do DS games look as bad on this thing as people have been saying? I'm currently rocking a DS Lite, and I wouldn't mind having a larger screen...
EDIT: Btw, had they already marked them down, or did you have to fast talk someone?

It seems to vary a bit from store to store. At location I went to, it was already marked at $170, but I've heard other people have had to price match or be assertive about getting the marked down price. Your best bet is to call ahead of time and ask the manager if they're selling the 3DS at $170. If they won't budge on $250 by themselves, find a store that will, then have them price match it (or just shop at the other store).
DS games definitely don't look as good. You might want to hang on to your old DS, at least for a while, as how annoying the visual downgrade on DS games is will vary from person to person.
EDIT: Also, the ambassador deal ends one minute before midnight EST on the 11th. Make sure you take your time zone into consideration so that you can buy the unit, update the firmware, and connect to the eShop while the offer is still valid!

Wal Mart and Dell both broke the street date. Maybe a few others.

Oh man, I was thinking I had till like the 20th. Eh well, there's nothing on the list that particularly excites me anyhow. If I don't get them, I won't shed any tears.

So do DS games look as bad on this thing as people have been saying? I'm currently rocking a DS Lite, and I wouldn't mind having a larger screen... They look a little blurry and the colours look washed-out. How much this hurts the look of the game seems to vary from title to title IMO, but it'll always be at least slightly worse. It's not deal breaking, though. A DSiXL might not be a bad option, my dad has one, and it's luxurious (not a word I'd usually use to describe a gaming device) As for the games situation, much of what I've played thus far I'd call fun, but nothing that would justify buying a new system for, to say the least, though I haven't actually tried the Ghost Recon game, so that could be something.

Well, I'd like to have an XL, but they are now the same price as the 3DS. Considering I already have a DS Lite, it's a tough sell to spend $170 on a bigger screen to play games I can already play. Compare this to spending a $170 on a less (but still) bigger screen, and being able to play games I currently can't.
