The last launch title that was worth getting a console for barring special interests was the Xbox with Halo, and before that, the N64 with Super Mario 64, so that can be argued of most consoles existing.
If I had the available cash to get one right now, I still would, because having the full-fledged SSF4 as available on my 360 with 3D, extras, and portability, and a meaty turn based strategy game in Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, are good enough to hold me until the big stuff comes around.

But they are very limited, and cater to a niche demographic My point is that when arguing if there are "reasons to buy a 3DS," you'd need to pick something a little more universal unless you're just arguing "reasons I bought a 3DS." As it stands, there's hardly any reason for the average gamer to really want or need the system. It has the little perks you mentioned, but extremely few gamers really consider those more than perks. I mean, if you get down to reasons as specific as those, you can argue anything has "reasons" to get it. It is, right now, little more than expensive gadget. The best reason I could offer for why I bought it right away was because I didn't want another Wii situation, where when some games I do want start coming out, then the fucking thing will be impossible to get anywhere. Hindsight 20/20, this clearly isn't likely to happen to anyone, but I didn't know that before the system launch. Definitely reasonable. I thought about doing the same, but couldn't afford it.

No, I do not think the 3DS has got what it takes right now to seduce the average consumer en masse; but that is NOT the topic of this thread. We are here to give a little memento of details and thoughts that we had while using the 3DS or pondering it's purchase; as far as I'm concerned, this is not a hardcore marketing 101 thread; we are not here to conjecture it's commercial status as of right now. But if you want it to become that, then to paraphrase myself, no, I don't see Joe Public rushing out of the house to get one. VoilĂ .

If that's what you're saying, why were you even arguing with me in the first place? Bold letters and italics in response to me don't make your side any more persuasive.
"There are reasons to buy the 3DS as of now already"
That is what you opened your post with, it implies that there are general reasons for people to get a 3DS, not just reasons specific to you and a tiny niche. It's redundant to say there are reasons to get it if you acknowledge anything, like I said, can be argued that it has reasons to be purchased.

Yeah, yeah. Whatever makes you feel vindicated. There. I still am happy with my 3DS and recognize whatever you want me to acknowledge regarding your superiority in whichever domain fits you. : )

Welp, stuff like that is why I'm keeping my DS lite. Pain-in-the-ass modifications are why I just don't bother with custom firmware on newer consoles. Again, though, I'm waiting for some more good 3DS titles to be released. OoT3D looks good especially since they include the Master Quest mode for once, and I wanna see dat Contra.

Nintendo has been very lax in handling modded Wiis so I wouldn't expect too much from this. If they want to make to prevent mods, I'm all for it, but only if they make content region-free so there's no reason to perform mods.

It's pretty much the same "cover our asses" legal mumbo jumbo you'd read on probably more user agreements than we'd care to check, and it's only there so Nintendo can say they told you so. I can understand this being somewhat horrifying to those among us who consider Linux to be an inalienable human right, but for me, it's pretty much part and parcel with buying a Nintendo product.

I don't think it's quite that benign. Although I'm also not in the doomsday camp, I'm not too crazy about all the data collection more and more of our electronic devices are doing about us.
You could just never connect the thing to the internet though. And it's probably not collecting any more information than your PS3 or 360 already is.
Now if they actually do start remote bricking people's consoles, they might have a fight on their hands. I'm not sure they should bet on winning that court case, even if it is in the EULA.
