While playing and researching Shaq Fu, I noticed something that the game lacked (besides good gameplay), an end boss.
Fighting games are usually better on two player, but a good boss is nice just to get the blood pumping. Here are some of my favorites-
Fuse Hime- From Metamoqester, an obscure Red Earth clone with good graphics and terrible sound. It's a spin off from an RPG series. Fuse Hime is a floating glowing demonic fetus that fights like Orochi from King of Fighters '97, except he isn't a disappointment. He is really annoying and spams this attack where a spinning pillar of energy practically wipes the screen. The battle is intense and sometimes relies on having you break him out of this attack before he can start.
Mr. Big- SNK fighters are full of people with crazy magic powers that take forever to say the name of their attacks while they use them. Mr. Big just beats you up with sticks. His brutal simplicity makes him feel fresh and different. Plus he looks really cool.
Onaga- Final boss of Mortal Kombat Deception. Most Mortal Kombat bosses are either silly looking four armed monsters or really, really, cheap. Onaga would fall under the cheap category, if not for his Achilles heel, the little artifacts on the side of his arena. Getting these artifacts means getting close to the edge of the arena, which is covered in spikes. The feeling of constantly flirting with death fits Mortal Kombat perfectly, better than any other boss in the series.
Does anyone else have any favorite bosses?

You gotta respect him. For some reason it feels like he deserves to be kicking your ass.

You gotta respect him. For some reason it feels like he deserves to be kicking your ass. He looks like he got over-enthusiastic about painting his team's colors on him when going to a game, and then wore a thong to show off as much paint as possible. Like, seriously, he strikes me as an overenthusiastic football-fan who somehow doesn't have a beer gut.

To me, there is one boss who is so cool he deserves respect... a man who's simple, yet effective quotes deserve to be legendary. A man who can kick ass. A man's man. It's none other than... SNK's very own Geese Howard.

Onslaught is my vote. The first time he appeared in his second massive form and yelled " No one is safe!" I thought to myself...now this is a freakin' end boss.

I'm probably going to catch hell for this, but who cares. I love absolutely everything about Goenitz. His moves, his level, his theme, and his attitude is awesome.

I second Onslaught and Master Hand, and raise up Crazy Hand to stand (float?) next to his more orderly twin.

Just about every SNK Boss is baller as fuck, but nobody, and I mean nobody beats the O.G., Rugal. Whether it's stylish, pimptastic '98 Rugal or straight up evil-hobo Rugal in CvS2, KoF's inaugural boss is the best in the business, and SNK knows this, that's why they bring him back to life every few years. He might not be as snazzy as some of the other SNK bosses, and he isn't even that cheap (he just has a lot of priority). He doesn't rain down on you with screen-filling energy pillars or inescapable vortexes of death, he just beats your ass and looks stylish doing it. Also, Genocide Cutter is just about the coolest name for a special move ever.

I'm actually really fond of Mizuki Rashojin, the possessed priestess that serves as the final boss of Samurai Shodown 2, for multiple reasons: 1: She's an incredibly rare female fighting game boss. The only other one that comes to mind right now is Sissy from Matrimelee. 2: She has a bitching final stage (invoking the Amazing Technicolor Battleground trope) and an awesomely dramatic final boss tune to boot. 3: She has a dark dog pet which can transform into a gigantic beastie. That gets bonus points. 4: She walks the line between "outright evil" and "tough but manageable." She IS an SNK final boss and cheap to a degree, but she's not giga-bullshit either, a really hard but certainly conquerable final challenge. 5: She has a neat character design that's somewhat subversive for what you'd expect from a final boss. Behold:

Ah yes... it's something of a testament to how much of a not-fan I am of ASW, I suppose. Either that, or I was just in a per-usual sleepy state when I wasn't thinking at all.

I honestly didn't intend that, but... I do feel as if I've missed an opportunity to point out how girly Testament looks.
