Resident Evil 5 is not the horrible game everyone makes it out to be: solid graphics, cool story, and descent game play should at least give this title a 7 out of 10. Gameplay notably inferior to RE4, and a plot that takes itself far too seriously considering how ridiculous as it is. Also, crappy AI partner. Yuck. DMC4 is magnitudes less fun than DMC3, and is utterly mediocre, particularly when compared to Bayonetta, which showcases DMC gameplay done right. Crappy subweapons, boring bosses, and just a general phoned-in feeling compared to Mega Man 9. I would place the quality level of Mega Man 10 on par with Mega Man 5 or 6... not completely awful, but why play it more than once when pther games in the series are so much better? Especially given that you likely have Mega Man 9 sitting right there next to it! Not all Japanese developers are doing terribly, but that's mostly small and mid-sized developers that have chosen to stick to their guns and not simply attempt to ape western design. They were never a huge deal in the west anyway, so they don't have as much at stake. The big companies are desperately trying to hold onto their formerly huge western market share (and failing), and they've been growing increasingly frantic in their attempts to maintain profits, choosing to mindlessly imitate western games without doing anything about changing their core development processes.

I haven't played the main game of Dead Rising 2 yet, but Case Zero was awesome. It seemed to fix the complaints I had with the first game, like with the aiming controls and survivor AI. This is defnitely true with the main game of DR2. They really fixed up the majority of the problems that plagued the first DR, so this is one outsourced sequel that I think they did a fantastic job on.

Also, wasn't Street Fighter IV (at least co-)developed by a company called DIMPS? And so it turns out that every Japanese game these days is made by a single development studio. Wait, I've made this joke before haven't I? About everyone licensing their work to Dimps? Fine then, insert "Capcom is the new Sega" here or something, whatever.

Or they could just make more Powered Up games. Powered Up would've been a lot better if it weren't based on Mega Man 1... so, uh, let's get Powered Up 2, already.

I'll call your Sieg, and raise you this guy: WHY WASN'T GENE IN MVC3?! /rant Also, whoever reviewed God Hand on IGN is a jackass. Dead Rising 2 is pretty good, but for me it was shorter than the original (mostly Overtime Mode) Or they could just make more Powered Up games. Powered Up would've been a lot better if it weren't based on Mega Man 1... so, uh, let's get Powered Up 2, already. I support this idea. Even though I've never played Powered Up.

It's sad to see companies like Capcom and Konami struggling like this, especially as someone who grew up playing their games since the NES days. I think they lost quite a lot of steam in the transition to the 32 bit systems... they had some great games still, but didn't absolutely dominate like they did in the 8- and 16-bit days.
Their output this generation has been pretty poor, consisting of sequels that are steps down in every way but graphics from the previous generation. And then when things get tough instead of buckling down and figuring out why they are putting out rubbish while companies like From Software excel like never before, they just start farming out their properties to foreign talent... resulting in garbage like the latest Castlevania game or the lame Bionic Commando revival. Even their domestically developed games, like SF4 and DMC4, are steps down. Lost Planet (the first) was a good attempt though.
Like I said, it's sad but other companies have picked up the slack. From Software is the most notable example- a generation ago they were being laughed at for releasing countless Armored Core sequels and now they have some of the most cutting edge games out there.

IMHO, Otogi is From's best game, and that was released last gen. And really, From's just been praised for Demon's Souls. It wasn't that long ago that they were still getting laughed at for stuff like Enchanted Arms, Tenchu Z and Ninja Blade. Really, Demon's Souls is their only saving grace for Western critics, and that'll turn as quickly as they start putting out more Armored Core and Tenchu games.
From's track record really doesn't look a whole lot better than the big guys like Capcom and Konami. They just release less games and are all around a smaller company, so it just seems like they do. Tenchu Z is considered like one of the worst games of the generation, and 3D Dot Game Heroes had a lot of aspiration and got some acclaim from a small, niche audience, but most people thought it was pretty mediocre. And if they actually released ACE here, they'd get even more flack.

I've never even heard of this "Mega" man until I read this topic. Probably another one of those random old school franchises from 20 years ago being dug up again to make money, glad to hear this game got canceled. Not sure why anyone would think a character so obscure was so popular.

And if they actually released ACE here, they'd get even more flack. From Software may not be the most critically acclaimed studio ever, but their core franchises - Armored Core and King's Field - are loved by many, as are their other titles for that matter. Have they had a few duds? Sure, but so does just about any developer that's been around for a while. They make quality games that appeal to a specific audience, without compromising their games in order to appeal to the broadest group of people possible. Demon's Souls may be their first big hit (which still isn't anything more than a blip compared to the Modern Warfares of the world), but From Software has been around for a long time, and they will continue to do well as long as they maintain their development philosophy. From Software makes games without worrying about whether the entire planet likes them, because hell, they're fairly niche in the first place. As a result, their games have a unique flavor that you just don't get elsewhere.
